Garand Collectors Association

Exactly what is the benefit of joining this Garand Collectors Association? All I can see that you get is just a magazine, I don't even see a discussion forum anywhere. I can get more info about M1's here than on their website. Am I missing something?

For me the magazine is enough. It always has great articles on history, identification, care of the M1 and spotlighting rare or unique models.

Not to mention it qualifies me for CMP purchases.

The GCA is for people who have a serious interest in the M1 rifle and its history, development, and technical aspects. It's not for everyone and the articles published are mostly the result of various members private research. It is a qualifying organization for CMP purchases.Their website is just an introduction to the GCA and its purpose with some general info on the M1.

When I joined I received two back issues of the magazine. I have read both cover to cover and re-read them both at least once. Plus, unless I understand wrong members of the GCA get together in their states and shoot. What could be more fun than getting together with a bunch of other Garand collectors and listening to those beautiful ladies roar!

Wellll, mebbe I should cough up the coin then. I just like these forums, where we can all babble at each other, and I was hoping they had something like that. At least the CMP has one.

Be aware their membership year starts in September. If you send in membership dues now you will receive the back issues for the current membership year, but you will have to renew in September. They are currently sending out renewal forms for the next subscription year which runs from Sept.2009 to Aug.2010.

That is true! I think they will let you subscribe for two years so you would not have to worry about it. Still makes the first year relatively expensive but then again, it is only relative.

I like the mag too, but to be honest, my main reason is so I can buy from the CMP.

Wait a minute, if I join that will that be all I'll have to do to make CMP purchases? Or would there still be other criteria I'd have to do in order to place an order for even a friggin' muzzle gauge?

If that's all I gotta do, then I'm in and all for it. I'd see the magazine as a bonus. lol

Membership in a member organization is only one requirement. There's still a few other proof's of citizenship they require. I know of an AR-15 forum kinda like this one that if you just join it like you do here, it will meet the member organization requirement. I sent 'em copies of everything I could find that said I was a red-blooded good ol' boy born in the USA. Still waiting for my ammo though.

Well I started a thread about it but I'll ask it here also. Do I have to be a friggin' member to even get a muzzle gauge and gas plug wrench?

If so, what a PITA.

To buy ammo etc you only need club membership. To buy firearms you need club membership plus proof of firearms activity
