after almost an exactly 3 month wait, the barrel and barrel vice came from CMP.
today i took the old barrel off, had to use a 24" breaker bar. strange experience when it just snapped loose and turned freely with almost no effort. there was still fresh oil in the threads. just goes to show you cannot trust anyone when it come to buying anything. don't know if this is good or bad or if i'm lucky i had to change the barrel. now all i have to do is order the chamber reamer.

The few that I have turned off came off the same way

That is normal and it is a square thread which only holds tension when in place. Rick B

i was only wondering if good amount of wet fresh smelling gun oil should have been present. the installation instructions i'm going by call for a anti sieze compound.
also if i might ask... which type of chamber reamer would you suggest for the first time barrel changer, the pull through or a conventional. can the barrel be removed once installed and then reinstalled with out the timing going out or other problems.

Oil keeps rust from forming so that's a good thing. Probably just seeped in there over the years. My experiences have been the same. I don't know anything about reamers as I have only used USGI barrels that had already been used and therefore finished reamed already. As to your question about "timing" are you refering to indexing? The barrel needs to be properly indexed each time it is installed and the barreled receiver needs to be checked for proper headspace using the correct gauges and the bolt that will be used with the rifle. If the bolt is ever changed, then that bolt needs to be checked with the barreled receiver for proper headspace.
