HR M1 Garand cartouche question

I never noticed it before but I have a small six pointed star (Star of David?) on the under side of the stock just below the front sling swivel. A real faint cartouche but it is there and visible. It is slightly larger in diameter than a pencil eraser. The stock is for sure an HR and this isn't an import M1. Real good shooter. A CMP rifle. What does this six point star represent?
