Cmp garand is here!

Finally got my rifle today!

It's Springfield Armory, serial number 5844XXX. Can anyone tell me when it was made?

Thanks!

Probably March or April of 1955. What does the barrel read? Pull the op rod back and make sure it is locked and then look on the barrel markings. You'll see the maker and drawing number followed by a space and then one number followed by a space and then two numbers. The single number is the month and the double is the year. Yours will probably be like:

SA F6535448 3 55 A228

This barrel would be a March 1955 barrel. Hope this helps.

I sent the order on Jan. 25th.... seems they've been really bogged down lately.

CMP is way behind in shipping plus the Springfield's were on back order for a while. I sent my order in May 9th, got the Dont' Bother Us email a couple weeks ago. I should see the rifle sometime in sept. Ammo may take until December the way things are going.

Congrats on your rifle. Hopefully you know you must post pics and don't forget to sign it up in the roll call thread too!
