'Special' Garand Timeline

The following is for interest value -- if any, of course [grin]. (See also the 'CMP M1s' thread started by Rifle_Shaman, page 4)

Ordered RM1SPECIAL M1 Garand CMP Special Rifle. ($995 + s/h)

Paperwork mailed: August 10, 2009;
Order Rec'd by CMP: August 13, 2009;
Posted to eStore: October 1, 2009;
Shipped by CMP: October 6, 2009;
Estimated delivery: October 7, 2009 (noon).

FedEx tracking reports that it has been picked up, and is on its way.

CMP's Invoice Information gives the serial number as 3869759. If I'm not mistaken, that is very late WWII production -- durn near post war, at that.

Pictures when I get: a) the rifle, and b) fresh batteries for my camera!

It Made It! (Timeline Update)

The rifle is here! (RM1SPECIAL M1 Garand CMP Special)

From yesterday's post:

Paperwork mailed: August 10, 2009;
Order Rec'd by CMP: August 13, 2009;
Posted to eStore: October 1, 2009;
Shipped by CMP: October 6, 2009;

BWT beat the ETA by 35 minutes; actual arrival time was 11:25 a.m. EDT on October 7th.

No, I've not opened the box yet. Still have to get batteries for the camera. You do want a picture of the unopened box, don't you?

OK, OK, I Opened the Box...

...and lookee what was inside!

Yeah, it's a horrible photo, but I was in a hurry. 'Sides, iffn you wants sumpin' bad, that's how you gets it. Bad. (And I do have one of the unopened shipping box, if you really want one!)

Annyhoo, there she be. I've no time at present to disassemble, clean, and inspect, but some quick notes.

1. I'm too used to well-broken-in rifles. Lawzy, Miss Agnes the action's stiff! I'm sure it'll smooth out and ease up with use, and proper lubrication wouldn't hurt. (It's not dry, by any means, but there's lots less grease present than I'd like.)

2. Yes, that is indeed a forged/milled trigger guard. It appears to be almost suspiciously new. (I'll take it, I'll take it!)

3. And an Orchid for CMP. When I sent the order, August 10th, 180 days as specified on the CMP site put my receipt date along 'bout next Valentine's Day. Orest and crew must have been a-working' like beavers! Got my birthday and Christmas presents real early this year. Thanks, CMP!
