Japanese Garand

Saw an interesting gun on one of the TV shows i record. In 1971 someone donated 1 of 200 prototype reverse engineered "Japanese Garands -type 5" to a popular museum [ forget which one ] manufactured in 1945 they had made a couple of changes 7.7mm and 10 rd fixed mag fed with 2 of their 5rd stripper clips. Then the war ended and no more were made. Wondered if any of you had heard of them? I could be wrong about the mag being fixed.
