Stock Care I was wondering what should be used on the stock to keep it in the best condition without changing the finish. I like to keep everything as close to original as possible. I have some small mildew spots on the stock at present where it has been in the safe. Thanks.

You didn't say whether it is wood or synthetic. Wood, I use boiled linseed oil on a 00 steel wool pad. If I had a synthetic stock with mildew I wouldd try a 1 part bleach to 4 parts water solution and wash the mildew off. Last edited by ibfestus; 06-14-2007 at 04:29 PM. Reason: misspelled word.

You could try a quick, light coat of BLO thinned 50/50 with turp or mineral spirits followed by a Howards Feed and Wax shine. A Goldenrod might keep the mildew out of your safe.

Beckett56 remove the mildew and then go fetch you a spray pump bottle of F 21 in the brite green bottle I'ts like Armour All but better. I've been useing it on my guns for a years, it's use to be called 2000. The results on wood is unbeleaveably excellent ! And I do put it on the metal too ! It makes a matte finish gun look so much better too, apply it with a towel or sponge, a sponge is best and wipe off with a cotton towel. It also made my Mauser stock look 50 % better. Try it you'll like it, it ain't gonna hurt your gun and i hope you let us know the results after trying it...A.H Last edited by ArkansasHunter; 06-18-2007 at 09:42 AM.
