Springfield Armory Squad rifle

I have been saving my pennies and am either gonna get me a Springfield Armory Scocom 16 or the Squad Rifle, I am leaning to the longer barrel Squad rifle. anyone of yall have one? are the long range trajectories any good? I want one for when the SHTF if Osama gets elected. any alternatives to this weapon?

I don't know a ton about these rifles except that they work. They've been around for a long time for a reason.

What I wanted to contribute is as follows (you may already know)

But it is generally accepted that for every inch of barrel "removed", you lose 100 fps. now on an AR15 where the .223 is leaving at very very high speeds, cutting the standard 20" barrel down to the M4's length (16") does change velocity and accuracy at longer ranges, but both lengths are suitable. I do not know how the muzzle velocity of the M14 compares to that of the AR15s, but I would think that with a lower muzzle velocity (if it does in fact have a lower one) will then feel the 100FPS loss much more prominently. Its like losing 5 bucks if you have a million, or losing 5 bucks if you have fifteen.

Just what occured to me. How far are you trying to shoot though?

18.0" M14s are way cool and they retain enough muzzle
velocity to accurately reach out to 700 yards and more.
The SOCOM is also cool, but I'm waiting for the M14K from SEI.

SOCOM

if 700 yds. is feasable, it is way farther than I want to shoot. 500 yards would be the max for me even with good optics. I might check out the M14K you suggested, how can you check up on them as far as availability etc.

You can build up a clone on a factory Scout by yourself.
All you need is a SAGE stock of your choosing and the SEI DC Vortex with a GLFS of your choosing.

If you want to get something more like the military version you need to have it built by Smith Enterprise, Inc.

I just picked up a SAI scout after debating the same question, and couldn't be happier with it. What swayed my decision was virtually every scout owner I talked to said they love it and would buy the rifle again, while about 1 out of 4 SOCOM owners said they wished they had bought a longer barreled M1A.
I haven't shot it past 200 yards, but it shoots as good or better than any other rifle I've owned.
Some alternative rifles along the same idea as the scout would be something like DSA Congo FAL, or the 16.5" barreled Saiga .308

Smile M1A Socom II 16 1/2"

I have one and your right about the shorter the barrel, the less fps out.
It's a close quarters weapon, but fun to fire, my new weapon is a remington 700 P TWS 26" barrel, i will have it next week.
