.308 Norinco..?

Hi all
As an aside to my earlier posting about 7.62 and .308 commercial rounds being compatible, I have noticed that stamped on the left side of the reciever on my new Norinco is "M14 S .308 Norinco". It is a 2007 model, so I am wondering if these rifles have been rebarreled to the more readily availiable .308 ammo?

Not rebarrelled ços the dimensions are the same but at least if it is specified as .308, then it should have been proofed to .308 pressures so you should have no worries about using either cartridge. So saying, someone will go on about chamber tolerance differences, won't they?
