Now that I've had my new KImber a few weeks, I think I'm ready to do a couple things to it.

1. Get the front strap checkered to match the back strap.

2. Install a checkered guide rod plug ala Wilson. I haven't been able to find these for sale. If anybody knows where I can get one, please point me to them.

The stainless standard plug was exactly what I wanted. And that was much cheaper than I expected.

I think this one is going to look much slicker than the Kimber factory open ended one. It should complement the existing/future checkering nicely.

I can actually send it back to kimber to have it done for about $150. I figure this would keep everything looking consistent. They will also checker under the trigger guard for another $50.

Kimber seems to offer quite a variety of services for guns people already bought from them. Porting is also an option. I could even get the flats on the slide polished for $70.

Then again, why waste all that money on a 45. I saw a custom Caspian 10mm that a drool factor of 20. And for less than what I spent on this Kimber.

uhhh? if the guide rod plug that came on the Kimber was an open end make sure you don't have a full length guide rod. It's an easy check - install the closed end plug, pull back on the slide. If it only moves about 1/16th inch and stops then you will understand why the original was open.
Actually if it's a new Kimber it should come standard with a full guide rod? They may make a pistol without a full length guide rod but I'm not 100% sure about that?

I realized that before I ran off and ordered one. I was cleaning it Saturday after the range and saw the error of my ways. It was a little disappointing.:-(
