I had 2 of them years ago. I had a Colt 1991A1, it was combat accurate and jammed 7 times in 3,000 rounds. Way too many jams for a defensive gun. I had a springfield a few years later, it was nothing but trouble. Local gunsmith told me he could make them both as "reliable" as a SIG for about a grand. I bought a "used" P226 that had 50 rnds through it for $350.00. Now I have two both are the same, one for me, one for the wife. (1911s traded in)

SIG #1 has 9,467 rounds through it with ZERO malfunctions of any kind. #2 has 411 rounds of NATO ball and various +P+ LEO rounds through it, once again, no malfunctions.

Not new, one has been my constant companion for 8 years. It has been through it all. Snowed on, frozen, submerged in water, muddy, sandy, and fired in all of tham conditions. It was so sandy one time I could feel it grinding as I cycled the slide, she never even gave thought to fail. Now I know a GI grade 1911 can do the same, but with far less accuracy, do that to an accurate 1911 and it is done for. The SIG gives accuracy and reliability all in one.

The 1911 is good, it is just old and needs parts replaced earlier than more modern designs, is only accurate if you give up reliability, and only reliable if you give up accuracy. I want to give up nothing. I want it all. Selfish, I know, but that is the way it is.

Funny,It is usually Sig and such that I hear how much trouble they have at the range.Guess the real owners and shooters should have advice from here and get rid of those 1911,s.Hope they do.I have a lot of parts and extras to put in some that need them.I believe I have heard it all when I hear that you cant have a 1911 that is accurate and dependable.Think I'll go tell my 1911,s that.Sort of tune them in. sam.

Two Rock Island Armory GI models, one RIA Compact, and a brand new Colt M1911A1 repro. All .45's, all 1911A1 platform.

1911A1

Howdy,

I got a 3" Micro compact, 4" Champion, and 5" Mil-Spec 1911A1's. I love them all and wouldn't part with them. Just bought 2 Sigma's(S&W) and waiting to shoot them. Glad to have a Springfield forum
