i dont care what springfield calls it, its not a mil spec product. i dont ever recall seeing a stainless 1911 in the military- so how do they call it G.I.?

They say Geneseo Il on them but that's the same with all of the Springfield Firearms.. but the sad truth is that they are NOT American made, most of their stock comes from either Brazil or CZ.. which is tragic because Springfield Armory is the oldest gun company in America.. well at least the name is.

NO KNOWN WWII STAINLESS STEEL 1911 OR 1911A1's WERE EVER PRODUCED!! Recently I saw a Springfield Armory (Commercial) Inc., Geneseo, Il. M1 Garand lookalike, with the underside of the receiver having "Australia" cast into the investment casting (on the left side where it contacts the wood). Lithgow is where I had heard that most of their Investment castings have been made, for a long time. This helps to understand where they have come from, and Springfield denies they are made outside the USA. Maybe to Springfield if the parts are assembled into a rifle here, the rifles were made in the USA. This Springfield Armory (Commercial) Inc., Geneseo, Il. M1 Garand lookalike wouldn't function, just like their M1A's, until they have been disassembled and lubed. This one was a dry as a "popcorn ****", except for a little lube on receiver parts where you could tell the lube had been put on the rifle after it had been assembled. Inside there was no lube of any kind, and the rifle would not cycle, except by hand feeding each cartridge. It shoots OK, holding a 1 1/2 inch group with Australian .30-06 at 100 yards (part of that could be the shooter, and it may shoot better than that). ` Last edited by Gyrene; 11-08-2004 at 01:21 AM. |
