Question match bbl won't fit into the bushing

Got a S.S. 1911 G.I., purchased a match-grade 6" bbl, which seems to lock up fine with the frame, but the tip of the 2 bushings I have. What to do? Widen the bushing or file off some material on the bbl??? Both??????

you need to ream out the inside diameter of the bushing.

If I do that, accuracy with the stock 5" bbl will deteriorate, correct? Of course, bushings are cheap...

you answered your own question Bud. get another bushing to use on the new barrel. keep the original barrel and bushing undisturbed.

Thumbs up

Yep, for best accuracy, fit the bushing to the barrel!

6" bbl tip

The tip of the above mentioned bbl is a bit thicker than the rest of it. This would ensure an optimum fit with the bushing in a 6" slide, but since I'm going to be using it in a standard (Government) slide, it's of no use. Yet if I widen the bushing to fit the tip, it will be a bit less tight on when the bbl is completely installed... Are you guys sure that I don't need to just file of some material on the bbl itself, may be using sand paper or something? I realize this would be a long and tedious process, of course.
