| Senior Member | Rock Island Armory Yesterday I took Mickey, my youngest, with me to Adventure Outdoors and bought him a full size Rock Island 1911 in honor of his splendid achievement in finishing the 7th grade with all A's & B's. A few weeks ago, I bought, as an incentive for Bess, my middle child, a Heritage Rough Rider .22 with pink mother of pearl handles. High school grades aren't posted yet, so it's still a pending award. I'm really glad I have children. It gives me an excuse to buy guns. I took Mickey's gun to the range today and put about 75 rounds downrange. It doesn't like my 200 grain SWC handloads (FTF), but happily spits out Remington factory load 185 grain flat nose and my 230 grain LRN handloads. The pistol is beautiful. Last night, I completely dis-assembled it, and polished some things, but I could find NO rough spots or tool marks. It's a plain vanilla full size GI model, and as I was putting it back together, I had to agree with something I heard at Pannell's Guns a while back: John Thompson was a genius. It's hard to believe how SIMPLE and elegant this design is.

| Senior Member | The range was closed Monday for Memorial Day, so I didn't get to shoot it again. However, I have taken it apart and put it back together about five times, and have sanded down a couple of sharp places : bottom cut-out on the right grip, edges of the trigger. I've also been burning my eyes out looking at all the 1911 sites, and MAN, is there a wealth of information out there! At first, I was going to order a new grip safety & hammer & a full length guide rod, but ya know whut? I changed my mind. This thing is just beautiful. I am going to get at least one extra magazine, though. I'd like to get a higher capacity magazine. The mag it came with is a 7 round. I'm spoiled, I guess. My Hi-Point (which I still am utterly loyal to) has a 9 round, and my 9mm S&W 5906 has a 14 round, so I'm feeling a liitle short. On the other hand, my S&W Model 60 38 special only holds 5 rounds. So, maybe I just need to change my frame of reference. I may sleep in my chair tonight, because I doubt my sweet wife will let me put the RIA under my pillow. I may shoot up all my ammo tomorrow. Oh, well, that's why I bought reloading equipment.

| Senior Member | Oh, it's lovely. I reloaded 300 rounds of 230 gr LRN, and took 200 rounds with me to the range, and shot 125 of them. It's so nice! Good shot groups - 7 rounds in about 2" at 50 feet. I skipped the .22 league tonight so I could come home and clean and polish it. I want another one. And one for my oldest son, too.
