| High Standard M1911's?
I am in the market for a M1911. I have been set on a Springfield Armory mil-spec, but I recently came upon a new production High Standard m1911 for under 400 new! Anyone know anything about them? Quality, "Bang for the buck"?

I'd stay with the SA mil spec. Great gun. Ask around the forums.

You will be A LOT better off with a Mil-Spec than a High whatever it is. It may be one or two hundred more, but worth every penny. |

| high standard vs. springfield mil-spec
the nov/dec issue of American handgunner has an article comparing the high standard and springfield mil-spec 1911s.both are imported and both went bang when the trigger was pulled.the author said he would pick the high standard because it has a lowered and flared ejection port and beveled mag well.my own experence is only with a springfield mil-spec compact and i can honestly say it was by far the least reliable worst shooting 1911 i have ever owned.it had to be hand fed and when it did shoot i was lucky to hit a man-sized target at 15 yards.i own 4 other 1911s;a colt government model 80s series,a colt 1991 compact,a kimber custom II,and a custom built 1911 based on an essex frame.all are exceptionally accurate and reliable.i know alot of people love their springfields and im not trying to pick a fight with them,i just would not own another one.

| Another vote for RIA
I just bought a Rock Island Armory 1911A1 and fired it today at the indoor range for the first time. My time was limited as I had an appointment later in the day, so I only put 56 rounds thru it, but it functioned flawlessly! 50 rounds were target FMJ rounds, 6 rounds were Federal hollow points. The trigger is reasonably good right out of the box. Fit and finish are good. Wish it had 3-dot sights instead of iron sights but that's the only complaint I have so far. Accuracy was good. I was getting reasonable groupings at 20 feet, 30 feet and 40 feet, even though this was my first time firing it. It's hard to judge on such a small, first sample, but I'd say it's probably about as accurate as my Ruger 9mm (P95DC). Not as accurate as my CZ75BD, but no other pistol I've ever fired is, either. I am very happy with my RIA 1911 so far! Jay1958
