New Toy - I Has One

Ok, I had said earlier that I was done buying guns for a little while, trying to pace myself before my collection takes over and tosses me out of my own bedroom. But then I was handed an offer I couldn't refuse. And seeing as how I've always wanted a 1911 and now was handed such a great deal, I just about sold my soul to make sure she came home with me.

I landed myself a two year old Springfield 1911A1, not completely factory, and needs a little love. It has, so far, spent its life as a range rental gun. The finish is in ok condition although showing signs of being taken in and out of a show case a few too many times. Someone replaced the guiderod with a two piece, and that will be the first part to be replaced. The grips need to go, too. It has a set of wrap around rubber Hogue grips, and while it looks good it takes away from the feel of the weapon. And I'm going to be doing a lot of custom work to this gun if I get my way. She'll probably need general maintenance very soon as I know she was shot a lot before I got her.

Otherwise... she shoots like a dream. I've never shot well with 1911s but wanted one anyway. I got her this afternoon and we were on the range a few minutes later. I'm shooting just a touch low, but just out of the 10 ring, and with a nice, tight group. The trigger is so smooth you hardly know you are pulling it. Very little muzzle flip, no failures. I'm thinking the Glock 21SF may need to share IDPA time with his new sister.

Here she is!

Nice looking 1911! I don't have a .45 right now hopefully soon.

I have a set of spalted maple grips I'm not gonna use.

They're yours if you want them. PM your address and I'll mail them.

Don't blame you there...It's more fun to buy a standard model and work it into what you want project by project.

Sweet. One nice thing about it: you know it's broken in. So if you run into a problem, you won't have to put a couple of hundred rounds through it to see if the problem goes away...

That's kinda how I rationalized the purchase to myself... a gun I don't have to break in. I didn't have break in my K31, either, and he's a dream, so she has to be good. LOL! And it's probably why her action is so smooth.

I like mine. I got it from a friend who helped out his son financially. He bought it from his kid for way too much, just to help him with cash flow. He then sold it to me for about $350 including some parts that came with it, since many were upgraded, and a Blackhawk holster.

Thank you! I should have saved her first target as a civilian owned gun, but I forgot and tossed it away at the range. She really does shoot very well. And for a range rental that was shot to bits, I'm impressed. I'm also very proud, because I found out that since I bought her about six people have been in to see if she went up for sale yet and yelled in disgust when they heard she was already gone.

Well, I found out the guide rod is a Wilson Combat guide rod and people keep telling me not to get rid of it, that it is the best rod I could get for it. It just really makes taking it down a pain. And I'm considering a Blackhawk holster for mine, too. I've got a Blackhawk drop leg for my Glock 21SF (yeah, I know, I wanted the hip holster but accidently ordered this one and really don't like it) and the holster itself is real nice. I just don't like my gun being on my thigh.

SL is the Blackhawk holster your Interested in have the switch on the side to lock the pistol in the Holster.

My son owns several holsters for his Glock, about 3 weeks ago he came home with another new holster I think he said was a Blackhawk.

It has a lever or switch on it that locks the pistol in place.

Also the holster is made out of plastic or something.

Any way it's an excellent holster. Is this the one you might get ?

Yeah, the Serpa. Knowing how I roll, though, that gun will have at least five different holsters eventually. LOL!

I own 2 of them I think you will enjoy this pistol very much, easy to field strip, easy and rather safe to carry locked and cocked.
