hollywood came up with a way to eliminate gang bangers from the gene pool by teaching them to hold their pistol sideways......

5shot should stick with a 5 shot S&W Chiefs Special, that way when he pokes his finger out there, he will be able to change his name to Stubby......

I was just yelling at a guy today at one of my picks for the same thing is their a fool running around showing people this middle finger thing or is it the movie thing. this guy was telling me how he was showing his young son to shoot this way. Now I gotta say I was a Navy Small Arms instructor for over 20 years and am qualified with every sidearm (expert) they ever had during my years of service and am qualified in CQB (by the USMC) with both the M9 and M1911A1 and I have never ever heard of the technique this yahoo is referring to. The technique I was taught was to always bring the sidearm to eye level even if you cannot see the sights (also used during low/no light conditions). natural instinct is for your hands to always follow your eyes. 20+ years of experience has proven this works.

You were in the Navy at a good time. When I was in the Navy, the M1911A1 and the "one hand stand" was pretty much it for most Navy and Marine personnel. I remember the isosceles stance, as used by some law enforcement, was coming into being but was not standard. When I left the Navy, went into a law enforcement career, and became an instructor, I discovered the full range of isosceles, weaver, and modified weaver techniques while learning tactical movement and CQB under time, point shooting, low light conditions, rapid reload, and use of available barricades. We learned and taught a wide range of conventional, and when necessary, unconventional shooting. Over the years, I saw the transition from the service revolver to the service pistol and taught every facet of both. During that entire time, I never heard of shooting a pistol with the middle finger as a standard procedure, nor would I recommend it. When I qualified with the M9 service pistol prior to my DOD deployment, I noticed that the military came a long way from my old active duty days thirty years ago and I’m certainly glad to see it. I still didn’t see any middle finger shooting or pointing with the index finger down the side of the weapon.
