ramped barrel vs. standard

I have a SA 1911 that I recently purchaced used.
The feed ramp on the barrel had been a victim of a practicing unpromising harmeror.
The Polishing on the frame is not factory, but is not a problem. and is quite servicible.
At the moment I have replaced the ss factory barrel with a GI chrome lined one. using the same bushing, it will shoot a fairly accurate group with Ball.
I am considering having my gun sent off to make it accept, ramped barrells but I like the availability of standard parts.
I am interested in any input.

if your going to keep the gun in .45 cal you dont need to have a ramped barrel. just have the feed ramp polished and the barrel throated.

Someone told me "be careful modifying the 1911, you may loose it's well known indiffrence to being dropped in a bucket of mud"
