| Just wondering
Is there some single source that lists all or many of the currently available 1911s and their specs in something resembling a spreadsheet? It would make comparing a lot easier.

| One of the Usual Suspects ![]() | Teach, in my quest for a 1911 promised me for Christmas, I've begun one of these. There's a lot of work left to do, but I'll send it to you when I'm finished.

That's great! I started one, too, but am finding an incredible number of possibilities and a lack of time interfering with getting it done, hence my query. I have mine on Excel.

| One of the Usual Suspects ![]() | Exactly. My is on Excel also, and the possibilities are nearly endless. Consider, for example, only the versions inside Springfield Armory's 1911. I'm continuing to work on however.

Okay, it appears this could be a popular thing. What are the chances of getting this thing organized a bit and have several of us work to put it together? If we can agree on what format to use, which features to list where, etc. then each of us could work it up for one brand, send it to Chris or someone else here, and they could consolidate it into a very useful sticky or something.

So, who want which brand(s)? I could do Kimber or Springfield since those seem to be calling me the loudest right now. Who wants what? For that matter, what's out there? Secondly, does anyone know how to post it here, or do you want to exchange pieces by email?

I'll help for sure. We could probably ask a mod or Chris how to upload it to the site so that everybody could refer to it. That might be better than exchanging spreadsheets. Should we further define our parameters? Would we want the shorter variations of barrels included, for example. I would think so, but what do you all think. Would we list pricing also? That is not always available on the manufacturer website. I'm in, say for Taurus and Para and Smith Wesson.

Yes, we definitely need to decide what to include and not include in the list. Kimber, for example, offers 3 basic pistols with numerous variations as to color, sights, grip panels, rails, etc. Para has their basic sizes but also different frame widths in some sizes for high cap magazines. As a minimum, I think we need to include barrel length, magazine capacity, height, length, thickness, and weight. And that's just the carry related stuff.
