Speed/Performance Hammers

I've been poking around the different sites looking at parts and noticed Wilson Combat has some performance and speed hammers for faster lock time and such. How would you even go about replacing one of these things?

well, the best thing to do is find the style hammer that you want and take it to a good gunsmith (if your going to replace the sear and/ or trigger, do it all at the same time). the hammers are going to have extra material at the engagement and half cock notches that need to be fitted to the gun so all of the safeties function correctly. anything in the fire control group (hammer, sear, disconnector, or trigger) are not treated as "drop in" parts (at least they shouldn't be, but some attempt to do so). to function correctly they need to be fitted.

Check out Brownell's site. Their parts description let you know if things are a drop in or if fitting is required. Fitting may be minor or more serious. They also advise that some parts are for gunsmith installation only.

I hate looking for anything on Brownell's. Its a Charlie Foxtrot when you search anything on their website.

Not that hard - there are a couple videos on you tube showing how to take a 1911 apart and put it back together. I would go ahead and upgrade the whole fire control - I wouldn't mess with the original sear and trigger. Get the whole shebang.

I love the Wilson hammers - I have two. You need to have a beaver-tail grip safety. If you already have that just switch it out. If you have a mil-spec frame you will either have to modify the frame or get the Wilson Combat drop-in beaver tail grip safety. It rattles more than a custom fit grip safety, but it works.

I think its considered a Govt 1911 but its a PT-1911

Not a hard replacement. But may require some filing and polishing.

Heavier than the factory? That has to be the first time anyone has wanted a heavier trigger pull, so I don't know.

Well as it is right now I believe my factory trigger is all of 4lbs if that. I would like a heavier/longer pull.

Why did you buy a 1911?? Any DAO would have given you the longer/heavier pull you are looking for.....

I suppose you could swap out yours for a Gov't or Springfield 1911a1 fire control - I believe those are about 10#?

I bought a 1911 cause I liked the look and feel. However like any addon/mod I'd like a new trigger. The 4# trigger is just too light to be of any use. I'm used to pulling the triggers on my Mosins, SKS and .30-06.

You might want to look at a Browning HiPower....they are a single action designed by John Browning with a longer, heavier trigger pull
