Sure, mags come in all shapes and sizes. But which ones do you prefer for each gun? I think there's an optimum size for each gun that makes the most of it in general use. Also there are standard ones that just work better. Me, I'm a 20 round fan. I've stocked up with 20rd Aluminum G3 mags out the wazoo (thanks TAPCO!). And when I use GunGeek's AR, I prefer the 20 round USGI mags, cause of the look and more conservative volume of ammo. I'd get those if I got an AR. I have a see thru 30rd AK mag that works great and looks really cool with silver bear ammo, and one that I need to give back to my friend, and I got a 40, which I think of as two 20s. Now that the prices are right, I think I'm gonna jump on a few 20s from Tapco. But the 30s are great mags. For pistols, I like flush, but can appreciate a bit longer, like 20rd in a 15rd 9mm pistol. And everyone wants to try a 30 some day. And I don't really have a cow with my 10rd post ban Steyr mags, since 10 in a CCW pistol is plenty (you're drawing fast and firing close at a few people, not having a shootout). NO I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE STUPID STINKING BAN. I just wouldn't spend more and get a less desireable pistol just for higher capacity. Course some day I'd like to fire a 75 round drum from my buddy's AK. Oh yeah, and NEVER sacrifice function for capacity. It defeats the whole point. AB-10/Tec-9 aftermarket mags. Nuff said.

Most of my shooting is from the bench, so I tend to use the shorter mags for serious benchwork - they're handier than a long box. Got some ten-rounders for my Bushpup and some fives for my CETME. WHen I step over to the side to do a little "Rock&Roll" then I use the thirties in the Bushpup and the twenties in the CETME. My AK is a "retarded ten", so it doesn't matter. I like MecGar's eight round mags in my Colt .45 pistol.

I think realistically 20 rds is enough. But I have all sizes, I even have a 40 rd mag for an m1 carbine. The one that I curiously bought on a whim and works perfectly is an extended 25 rd mag for my Beretta 84F .380. I am not sure as to why I purchased it, but after trying it out I am very sorry I didn't buy a couple of more them. It works flawlessly and holds open after last shot.
