Moon Clips

Well, this is basically a "magazine" question (I know, moon clips aren't magazines, but I'm new to the board and this seemed the best section to ask).

I'm going to be purchasing a Taurus Model 608 (that's the 8-shot .357 Magnum) in the next couple of weeks and frankly, I'm going to want something that lets me reload faster, which leaves me with the option of a speedloader, a speed strip, or moon clips.

From what I've seen, it's a little tougher to get a reliable, 8-shot speedloader, so I've been considering moon clips. However, I've also learned that you need to have the cylinder cut so they'll fit.

If I do that, is that going to mean that the revolver won't take rounds without a moon clip anymore? I can see how that would be a possibility, as any extra space between cylinder and frame would be bad, especially with a .357 Magnum round.

I'm more familiar with semiautos but I just really loved the 608. Anyone know the answer here or could perhaps suggest the best choice?

i dont know revolvers very well, but i think once u have the cylinder cut, u have to use the moon clip, cause of spacing issues, atleast for a big caliber like the .357

im not positive, but that would be my logical guess.

and welcome to gun and game, this is a great forum

Thanks for the welcome.

That's my concern. The .357 is so powerful, I don't want to think what it would do to the frame as the shell casings smash back against it.

So...maybe it'll have to be speedloaders.

The S&W 627 PC comes cut for moons or loose rounds w/no pressure problems. Remember the case wall is very thick at the bottom and it contains the pressure. A number of gunsmiths are mooning everything from 6 shot M19's to 44's w/o problems.
