Question 1911 8 round mags...

Anyone heard anything bad about these mags? They are made by ProMag.
8-Rd. 1911 .45 Acp Mag, Stainless Steel, Magazines & Clips, After-Market Mags at Sportsman's Guide
Thinking of trying the 3pk. Any feedback would be appreciated...

funny you should mention that, I was at the gun store this morning and overheard the owner talking about those... He was somewhat disappointed with them. He's usually on top of all things 1911, so I'd steer clear.

Although for the price, its hard to go wrong.

Well they've got 2 reviews and although they're both not all that long, they are positive in that they work. I think for the price, I'll go ahead and try them. At worst, I may just have to get some better springs is all then?

But yea, $31.47 for 3, you're right, hard to pass on. And I always thought ProMag magazines were somewhat decent? And some 1911s can be more picky then others. So it they may work in some real good, in others not so good and in some, maybe not at all? Well I shall soon see I guess? I'll let you know.

Will do, and I just noticed, Lifetime Guarantee, that don't hurt either.

On a side note, every time I here or see the word guarantee, I think of the line in the movie Tommy Boy. lol

There used to be 3 of us Cops that carried Colt Autos. We'd go in together and buy 10 mags at a time, about $3 each brand new military issue. Usually 3 would work in all three guns, 3 would work in 2 guns and 2 would work in 1 gun each. We normally wound up with about 2 that we'd trade off at the gun show or just throw away.

I prefer MecGar magazines for my Colt .45 pistol. Lifetime Guarantee, same quality as Wilson and Shooting Star, but half the price. I've been using them for twelve years - after some 'no-name' mags I got from SG grenaded in the pistol - floorplates came off when the tack-welds broke!
MecGar makes factory magazines for many pistols. I have their 7, 8 and 10 rounders - NEVER had a problem!

I have never used them but my understanding is that they are below the quality of a Wilson Combat. But I have to admit that I was considering getting a couple. The price is a lot nicer than other mags!

promags are generally low quality, some work, some dont. wilson combats mags, or mecgar are just about the only pistol mags i buy anymore.

Well I went ahead and ordered the 3pk. for $31.47. Suppose to arrive tomorrow, Friday, and I'll see how they cycle by hand and post for that then when I get to the range, I'll use them and post for that. I know cycling by hand is far different then by shooting.

How are the Act mags? I think it's ACT anyways. They're the brand/ones that came with my S&W1911PD.

LeftyO, I wish I could afford to get the ones you've mentioned. If these don't work or work off and on, I'll have to find a way to afford them no matter what. Think they go for like $30 bucks each or something close to that? But my reasoning for even wanting more is simply to save my hands from pain. I can load them at home, hours before I go to the range, and it gives my hands/fingers time to recoup. Rather then if I load them as I shoot because I only have 2. FWIW, I suffer from arthritis really bad in my hands and loading mags tends to make them ache really bad, then they cramp up. Granted, it's only when the weather is just right or if I've been doing other stuff all day when it happens. But I just want some to help prevent loading so much while I'm shooting.

Example: When I bought my G35, it came with 2-10 rounders. After the ban lifted, I bought 3-15 rounders, what the G35 and others come with now that the ban is no more. But I take the 2-10s and 2-15s, load them, and there's a box of 50. It saves my hands a great deal. But that's the only reason I even want anymore.

So LeftyO, if these are junk, I'll have to get on here and ask you where you go for the best prices.

Well they came in today and so far all I can say is the 3 I got hand cycled without a hitch or problem of any kind. When I get to the range, hopefully within the next couple weeks, I'll let you all know how they cycled when shot?
