I love my Tapco 20 round. I didn't have to modify anything with the original stock. I've heard sometimes you have to sand the mag well to widen it a little. The sks (Norinco) I use the Tapco on is completely stock other than the mag.

If I ever got a Norinco, it would be one of the models that use the AK mags.

But I am quite happy with my Yugo. Accurate as all get out, no misfires or misfeeds so far, and has eaten everything I have fed it so far. A high cap mag is not a big priority, but would be nice. Kgunner is kind enough that he is going to loan me a Tapco detachable to see if it will work in my Yugo with no modding, for which I cannot thank him enough.

Operating on percentages the odds of having to modify your existing SKS to a higher capacity and get to work would be too high, leaving it as is, it will feed the first round and the last just fine, on my Norinco I tried a Chinese 20 round fixed version with the embossed star from numrich and had nothing but trouble I had to do allot of pliar work to get it to feed 17 rounds It wouldent feed the first as the mag spring tension was too much and it wouldent pick up the last 2 rounds because of not enough tension, I put back the 10 rounder and am satisfied useing the stripper clips.

Yes! The 20-round Chinese mags (with the embossed star) are as reliable as any factory mag, and they'll fit the original wooden stock.
They're made just like the semi-detachable 10-rounders, so you're still kinda stuck with using strippers, but you'll only have to do it half as often.

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the Tapco 20 rounder, got it today. I installed it easy enough and it hand cycles the bullets OK. If the rain quits by tomorrow I'll take her out and try it.

Well, for some reason this thing just refuses to cycle the 2nd round if I load twenty. Cycles the first round, and every round after the 2nd no problem.

Never tried it not loading 20, though.

Hay gandog56, updates us on the tapco you bought. I'm still considering trying one on my Russian. Have you gotten it to work right yet?

Nope, I was firing it at the 50 yard range today, and it worked perfect, except for not being able to load it using stripper clips. But later, I moved to the 100 yard range, and misfeed after misfeed after misfeed. I decided when I got home the heck with it and put the original non detachable 10 round mag back. I can actually work it faster because it will let me use the stripper clips.

That settles it, I'm just gonna stick with the original fixed mag. I got more than enough stripper clips anyway, they load fast and I've never had any problem with them.

MY feeling is that if you can't hit what your aiming at in 10 rounds you ought to just quit anyway.
