I got to see some thing interesting today
a buddy of mine said he had a big bag of "gun stuff" and had asked if I was interested
I said Shure!
well that was last summer
yesterday i saw him and he had the bag of gun stuff
it was a hundred pounds in a old army duffelbag
So
I got the thing loaded in my truck
drove home and lugged it up the stairs.
and started in on it
a good franchi semi auto shotgun barrel.
some worn wood stocks,
a half a dozen different odd sorts of .22's and single shot shot guns that had all been in a fire and had BADLY rusted
that stuff was worthless
there was some odd ball Ammo
I sorted through it and threw away what I couldnt use.
there where some old rusty "cheap" knives

and a burned up Makerov

a russian Bakail with adjustable sights
At first I had the idea that I could use parts from the one carcass I have. (that was Dropped from a shoulder holster while the guy was rideing his motorcycle at 70 mph)

upon closer inspection i realized that that would be impossible. the burnt up Mak was as dead as a beaver hat

it was welded
welded together every piece every part, the trigger guard was soft the flat spring was pliable (the grip was completly gone but the screw was still present).
the rear adjustable sight was welded to the slide slide welded to the frame it was one solid piece of metal
nothing moved.
kinda sad
but then seeing any fine firearm like a makarov that has been horribly damaged is a sad event for me.
kinda like seeing the body of a dead child.
Its all going on the scrap pile.

Well, it was worth trying to salvage something - too bad it was so little.

i bought a russian bakail in 380 from a co-worker last year he was asking $100 for it. i put some pearce grips on it and took it to my club range shoots nice, no malfunctions i wish millett would do some sights for it. all in all a nice "all steel" evil empire gun.

Yep I have has a couple of Bakails over the years they are fine maks'
what is nice is rather reciently Makerov .com has had made a replacement rear sight to replace a broken rear sight assembly.
the new rear sight is not adjustable, but its built like a brick $ hit house
the greatest weakness of the bakail IJ70 has allways been the rear sight.
drop it once on the rear sight and off it comes, usually in several broken pieces.
the screw is also known to walk out under recoil and go flying off in to the great beyond.
Mak.com has replacements of those too.

dont get me wrong the bakail is a fine pistol and it is unusual for any one to have a problem with the rear sight.
what is nice is that Now if something goes wrong it can be easily fixed.
enjoy your pistol.
if you wish to convert it back to the original caliber all that is necessary is replacing the barrel, easy as pie....
there is a barrel press tool that makes it a breeze.
