they seem to be in a lot of places on the internet and at gunshows. Personally, i looove this pistol. I love it as much as i do fried

Hm... the Makarov. To be honest, I didn't realize the gun had so many fans and I've found myself neglecting them for too long. My first pistol was a Walther PPK/S and I've had it jam plenty of times holding it loose and otherwise, so if the Makarov surpasses the Walther in that respect, I'm pleased. Also, it seems that Makarov rounds hit a bit harder perhaps than the .380 so better still. It's a tried and true commie gun like the AK47 so I have to respect it's reputation. I've handled a couple at gunshows before and they seem to be only a little more bulky than the PPK/S so I'd have to say it's not a bad choice for conceal carry. I'd often thought of the Makarov as more of a KGB sidearm, but indeed it was a military sidearm and I'd thought it seemed a bit small for that role but perhaps not.

I'll be perfectly honest about it. I don't have any particular need for a Makarov pistol at the moment and with money being tight, I wouldn't buy something I wasn't anything short of drooling over. I love the Tokarev, though. I have a Norinco 213 9mm in stainless steel that I live by. I think the Tokarev was a bit more formidable and it too is very reliable and the old 7.62x25mm was perhaps the first "magnum" predating the .357 by only a couple years. Still, I'm happy with mine being in the workhorse 9mm round for which I find much more readily available. But, I wouldn't suggest a Tokarev as a conceal carry gun if you like to rely on a manual safety. In that respect, the Makarov would most definately be your girl. So, will I buy one? Not right now. But would I? Certainly. It's a worthy firearm that get's my approval, whatever that's worth.

Not Hydro Shoks, but Federal used to make a 90gr load in it's "Classic Pistol" line. I wisely bought several boxes of it when it was available. I shot just enough of then to ensure that they would function, and now carry it as my SD load for the Mak!!

The old stock number was C9MKB.

BTW, I have seven Makarovs!!!

I have 2 chincoms, 2 east German and my first MAC a 1966 russian military that I brought back from Viet Nam in 1970. I shoot one of the chicoms occasionally and like it. I bought some of the russian Barnaul 95 gr hollow point ammo and it feeds fine. Mostly I shoot chicom ball.
I'd post a photo of my ruskie, but I don't understand the url bit to put up a photo.

Earlier I stated I would buy one if it was a revolver. Well you can change that as I have a Bulgarian on layaway. $150 which I don't think is too bad of a price.

Got 3 circle 10.
1- Had novak low profile tridg.
Sights installed, quick to pick up.
2- polished ramp, good for HP's
3-Make sure the top of mag.
Is equel to top of ramp, agan HP'S Req. This
4- Polished chamber- For all Ammo.
5- SHOOT THE S@#$ out of it.
{ It's a hard thing, but you'll manage}
6- Repeat as needed!

I have a mak by the bed side. Put an aftermarket grip on. Makes great difference.

Indeed a .380 can be fired in the Mak. I bought my Mak with an aftermarket Stainless steel barrel. Sometime ago the FBI called me and asked if I would bring my pistol in so they could fire it and run bulistic tests on it. Seems some one shot a district attorny with a mak and same barrel combo using a .380. So the barrel co. sold the barrel to Soandso and put it on my PM and Soandso sold the gun to me and the FBI called me. Don't tell me they don't keep records.

You would have a hard time finding a Makarov in 9x19.
The only ones ever made were a small number of experimental models that were later destroyed. - They did not work too well.

If you saw one in 9x19, it was not a Makarov, or the gunstore guys did not know what the caliber was.
As I said, the only Makarovs that were made in 9x19 were experimental models in Russia about 10 years ago, and they never went into production and were never imported.

The Makarovs only come in 9x18M or 9x17.
Some were produced in a 9x18 PMM caliber (9x18M on steroids) but I do not believe any of them were imported and no ammo is available.

Some Makarovs are marked "9mm" but that is 9x18, not 9x19.

DO NOT let the feds have your gun they have been known to keep them.
This has been going on for several years now.
Heres what happend.
Some federal attorny got shot in his Basement through a basement window (as I recall what the paper said).
It happend in Seattle
They determined that the bullet fired was from a .380 makerov aftermarket barrel. the ones that fed ord used to sell.
So, rather stupidly the feds have decided that it would be "OK" to track down and harrass EVERYONE that has ever bought a fed ord .380 mak barrel.
that is thousands of people.
years ago many bought the .380 barrels because 9x18 mak ammo supply was not a certainty. so to make shure that they would allways be able to shoot their makerovs they changed their barrels to .380
The Feds have been asking for the guns and NOT returning THEM.
This was big news a coupla years ago.
They have no legal right to test your gun.
I am suprised that they are still doing this.

My first one was a beautifully made Russian model with adj. sights (stolen). The second one was the excellent Polish P-64 (also stolen). My third one is the Bulgarian, a drop way down in overall quality (not stolen, it goes everywhere I do.) Easy to hide, easy to shoot well, easy to carry. The Makarov was based on the Walther PP (or PPK) as a simplified, easier to build service pistol. They are built like a tank, ultra-reliable, easy to strip/clean, and easy to use and carry. They shoot pretty good though not exactly a target pistol. I shot my P-64 ata steel target set up at 75 yds. My friend said I'll never hit that. I said "Listen for the 'pling'." (no wind to worry about) He could hardly believe his ears when the bullet clanged home! Used Ky. windage, aimed high. Worked for me! He had an E. German Mak lost when his house burned down. We both now have the Bulgy Maks. For the price, you will not find a better pistol unless it's a Russian Mak. But they are almost unobtainable now. I know who stole my Russian. We'll meet again, and much to his dismay!
