My new Mak !!!!

Just got a Makarov Made in Bulgaria. .380 caliber. This pistol really suprised
me when I shot it.Accurate, well made, and easy to hold on to.My uncle told
me the Bulgarian Mak's were good ones. What are the bad Mak's to watch
out for.I might start collecting these..

.380 is 9mmkurtz it's dimentions are 9mmx17mm
the true Soviet Makerov cartrige is 9mmx18mm
Is the 9mm you are referring to the 9mm parabellum?
if so the 9mm parabellum/luger/nato is 9mmx19mm
it can get a little confuseing.
The .380acp (9mmx17) is a little short for a standard caliber Makerov
the power level os also Wayyyyyy down.
The 9mmx18mm is a much more powerful cartrige
the 9mmx19mm is more powerful still.
a 9mmx19 will not fit in to a Makerov well enough for the slide to close in to battery and be able to fire the gun.
theoretically..............

Another difference is that I believe the 9x17mm and 9x19mm rounds are 0.354" bullets, while the 9x18mm is 0.363".

This 9MM X 17-18-19.. Ok so my bulgarian 9MM X 18 will shoot the 9MM x 17,
which in americano is .380. But the 9MM X 18 is euro 9MM Kurtz, which has
a little more power. I knew about the 9MM Kurtz, was the same as .380. But
your saying it's a little more powerful. Then i should go and get some 9MMx18
for more power(sounds good). To be honest the 9MM X 17 shoots well in my
mak with little to no recoil. But can't wait to test both rounds at the rannge.
Guess I've gotta check my Winchester cartirage book,to see performance on
both these. But will put them both to the test and report back.

The 9x17mm and 9x18mm and 9x19mm are NOT EVER INTERCHANGEABLE AT ALL PERIOD! You can get a replacement barrel to CONVERT a Makarov from 9x17mm to 9x18mm, but NO NOT EVER SHOOT ONE IN ANOTHER.

9x17mm is called 9mm Kurz or 380 ACP and uses 0.354" bullets
9x18mm is called 9mm Makarov and uses 0.363" bullets
9x19mm is called 9mm Luger or 9mm Parabellum and uses 0.354" bullets

Anybody who calls a 9x18mm a 9mm Kurz is NOT using the most standard terminology and could get someone hurt or killed by their mistake.

Its smartest to just stay with the round that the makarov is already made for, it is a powerful round, far superior to a .380 ACP

Thanks for clearing it up for me.I'll stick to the 9 x 18mm round for my Mak.
