| Model 1895 hitting way high
Nephew has a model 1895 45-70 that we took out last weekend. Shot some reloads,405 grain cast and some Winchester Jacketed Hollow Points,300 grain CX2 .Rear sight all the way down . Both loads shot good groups but all were at least 12 inches high@ 100 yds.Any suggestions other than a taller front post? He's a pretty accomplished shooter so I don't think it was the shooter. He could put them in a 9in paper plate if he held a foot low. Does Marlin make a taller front post?

Wayne, Were you resting the forend on bags? A bigbore including slug guns will shoot high if they are not hand held. Before you change the sights try holding the forend and resting the back of your hand on the bags. I have a couple of thumpers that I have to do this with, and a 12" differance is not unusual.
