Unhappy Marlin Repair (How long does it take!?) Marlin 795

Hey guys, sorry, I'm new to the forum. Anyway, my rifle was having major failure to ejects, double feeds, etc. I sent it in to marlin and had them repair it because of their warranty thing.

I could have fixed it myself but I figured why screw around with it, it's only my second gun so I'm no expert on this sort of stuff.

It has been over a month now, actually a month yesterday and the rifle has still not been shipped back to the store (I hope). I called Marlin. They said they smoothed the rifle out inside and that they had shipped it out a few days ago. This was last week. It still took them about 3 weeks to fix. I dont mean to start a rant, but did anyone else have problems like this?

I've heard a lot about 795 problems out of the box that can be fixed easily but they were due to less than perfect machining. Any idea on this guys? I feel like Marlin should get themselves cleaned up for their lower end rifles, because their higher end rifles is what I hear nothing but good about.

Well, Marlin did just switch plants to Ilion, NY from New Haven, CT...we've been telling folks that the 2008-2010 rifles
that were made predominately by disgruntled workers usually needed some QC/extra care...
and the new ones coming out of Ilion (since early 2011), of course, are coming from a new MFR'ing line, so may have some errors
due to learning curves & all that jazz...so if yours has MM in the serial, itsa new one...if it has an all digits code, itsa disgruntled one.

Some of us old geezers are treating the 2008-early 2011 rifles like used ones...inspect everything, clean, polish, repair & enjoy...
at $99 a pop for a 795 (after rebate), I can't complain about a little buffing work to make 'em run like a sewing machine

Reportedly, the rifles that do go back under warranty are well-taken care of by the New Marlin plant...
so once yours arrives, I hope your first range visit goes as planned
Also, avoid using Remington Golden Bullets...worst ammo ever.

Granted, I love pimping out Marlin rifles...here's last years pic of my 2009 Marlin 795

Well, that is quite the pimped out rifle! Thanks for the info! Any other ammo suggestions? The only thing I have actually gotten to try was the Winchester 333/555 type pack (not Super X). They seemed to do pretty well. I know CCI is pretty much bar none when it comes to good ammo, but they are also expensive. Have you tried any federal ammo? I've also heard good things about Remington's Yellow Jacket.

I was actually looking over those Dragunov stocks but they look somewhat flimsy. Any place you can recommend that sells good synthetic stocks? I actually seen one on Youtube where a guy took the stock from an airsoft gun, did some work on it, put a red dot sight, etc. It looked pretty sick.

The store finally called today about the rifle.

Sorry, I guess I'm jumping the gun here!

Federal bulk is my go-to plinking ammo for my semi auto .22s,for all my .22s for that matter. It's good stuff.
I've got other brands but I use it in my bolt actions, lever actions, and revolver.

I use Federal as well, its pretty good

Yellow Jacket's are HYPER Velocity, not supposed to use Hyper-velo ammo in Marlins. Same for Stingers.

Only use High Velocity ammo in Marlin 60/795's.

The thing about Remington rimfire ammo...they have a LOT of issues...
No primer in case,
Spotty primer in case
No powder loads (Squibs)
Short powder loads
Inconsistant bullet size
Improper case crimp on bullet
and that's all the issues I've had with Remmy Golden Bullets & Thunderbolts...that's a lot of issues.

As far as synthetic stocks, the Ramline stock mine is sporting they stopped making back in 1996,
due to Bill Clinton's Assault Weapons Ban...which sunset'd back in 2004. Ramline COULD make the stock again,
but thusfar has been sitting quietly. I tell folks to write Ramline & ask 'em for the stock again...
but right now auction sites (Ebay/Gunbroker/Auction Arms/etc) are where you have to look.

Bullpupgunstocks.com has a nifty bullpup stock They list it for the Model 70, which is the same as a 795, without the LSHO lever.

Some nice company could make a true fortune if they made a good synthetic stock at a reasonable price for the Marlin 795/60.
The only difference in the two is a Magwell for the 795 & a Tube Mag Hole for the 60. Action settings are the Same for both guns.

And some folks have used M-1 stocks & dremeled 'em to fit a 795 in...
used P-90 airsoft stocks & dremeled 'em for a 795...
and re-purposed 1022 stocks & bedded 'em for 795's...

I had a few choices of ammo of hand, all of it the lower dollar kind. I even shot off some 35 year old shorts I'd laying around. I took it all to the range to see what shot best in my guns and came away from the 25m shooting table a little suprised.

Federal Bulk has always been my mainstay for .22 ammo. Remington has been some real doggy stuff as of late, very inconsistent at best.

All in all, Rem Gold and Win SuperX suprised me when the did work. A new favorite are the Blazers and I'll still buy Federal's Bulk. At over $20 for a box of bulk now, it does pay to be discriminating.

I have the exact problem with my 795 as KiaX100000 had with his 795, jamming, failure to ejects, double feeds, and some misfires" However the first time I phoned the Marlin factory, back on June 1,2011, I spoke wth somebody in N.C. The rep ask me if I still had the box my 795 came in so I could ship it back for repair....I said no... She then said "we will send a box for you to ship it" then I gave my address and I am still waiting for the box. I called again on June 15, 2011...spoke to another rep...explained the problem and she checked the records and told me that the first box was never sent....took my address again and even gave me a order number.....its July 12,2011....STILL NO BOX!
My 795 has all numbers no letters in serial number so I guess my 795 was handled by a "disgruntled employee" like big shreck mentioned.
I could probably fix the problem myself but like KiaX100000 said "if its under warrenty why not let Marlin take care of it"?

I wonder if KiaX100000 got his 795 back yet and if he did how does it work now and how long the entire process took
Would appreciate any ideas or thoughts!

Marlin 795 repair

Well....Finally sent my Daughters Marlin 795 to the factory. As in previous threads it was mentioned that Marlin and Remington merged so they had me send the 795 to Ilion,NY:

Ilion Firearm Plant & Custom Shop
14 Hoefler Ave.
Ilion, NY 13357

I am hoping "big shreck" was correct when he said the repairs are generally done quickly

Still don't know if KiaX1000000 got his Marlin 795 back from the factory!

Well lets just see what happens!?

Cool Marlin 795 repair

Well if repairs are expedited quickly I can replace the factory stock with the new Dragunov Stock I purchased. After seeing some "pimped out" 795's. I figured why not? It is a cost effective way to improve how the weapon is handled and shoots and they do look good with scope and all....even as a small calibur.

By the way...Gun & Game is a pretty good forum!

I continue followups here in case anybody wants or needs to send their 795 in or any Remington/Marlin firearm...or whatever...then they have an idea or time line of how the NEW consolidated Remington/Marlin company handles repairs!
Plus if you are still under warrenty...why not?

7/23/11-Anyway....My package was delivered in approx. 3 business days to the Ilion,NY firearms plant. (sent it on 7/19/11 VIA USPS from West Coast with insurance for- $22.50 instead of UPS...to much hassle and more money-$25.75)
Got an email from Remington on 7/22/11 stating that they received it. Also included a link and repair number to review and follow the status of my repairs !
Now its the "wait and see attitude"!

Thanks for the Update, JYD...keep us informed
Over at RFC we've had a few folks have to send things in this summer, results have been pretty good so far.

8/9/2011 MARLIN 795 repair update
I received my 795 back from the Remington, Ilion fatory on August 8,2011. It was sent in on 7/19/2011 so that was a quick turnaround!
Before opening the box I figured any repairs would be pretty much visable....but I was wrong!
The following may seem like overkill so bare with me here!
It may prove to be beneficial to anybody wanting to send there Marlin or Remington in for repairs!

Prior to packing the Marlin in the shipping box, I did not clean it or pamper the rifle at all and decided instead to take a few photos as-is of the area needing attention and repairs(bolt, slide, chamber and magazine feed area). I used a CANON POWER SHOT SD790 IS DIGITAL CAMERA.
I pulled the rifle from the box and was very disqapointed. Then I connected the camera to a computer, opened the pictures in the latest Microsoft Picture software and compared them to the Marlin 795 rifle I was holding under a magnifying glass with a light. I was amazed that the pictures were near identicle to the areas on the riflle needing attention. In fact there was a strip of mixed dirt, grease and black paint still present and visable in the exact same place that was perfect match.
On the repair docs sent back to me in the box...the technician (as his title) comments indicated he :
-polished chamber
-polished bolt and oil
*-CLEAN and POLISHED action assembly
-test fired for function
It apperars to me that no attempt to even remove the paint from the most important area of the weapon was made and at this point I am not convinced anything was done to the rifle to correct my concerns. The bolt still fills like its rubbing accross 100 grain sand paper!
I am in the process of returning the enclosed self addressed,"HOW ARE WE DOING" post card attached to a letter to Remington and Marlin....not to complain but to express my opinion and allow them the opportunity to be aware that there could be MANY unsatisfied customers out there that are far more extremely serious about how their weapons are taken care of when sent in for repair.I do feel if I were considering another purchase of a Marlin firearm, I'd have to strike it from my "list".
Anyway....thats it and any remarks or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Thank you for taking the time to read this followup!

That is a Ramline Model 70 stock.
I got mine from Numrich, they are currently out of stock...but keep checking back every week or two, as they just had a few in,
and within two days they were sold out again.

I supplemented it with an ATI brand SKS-Retrofit Kit...which turned it into a folding stock.
I have a thread on that here in the Marlin section...done about a year ago I guess

How's it shoot now??

You are definitely doing the right thing by sending back the comments card.
The only way people learn is to find out where they made errors so that they can fix their system of doing things.

Although, I think they oughta use my FTE thread as a guide at Rem/Marlin...would probably help their problem resolution scores

Personally I wouldn't give 2¢ for a Remington-marlin other than a .22, with all the quality control issues and returns they are having with the lever action rifles.

Then again, they did stop that line of production for the year.

Cool followup!

Big Shrek,
No change in shooting! In fact as I mentioned..."it came back worse then when I sent it" and the pictures prove it!
Doing my part nay not be enough! Its a 50/50 deal where I,(customer) tells them the problem and they (repair person) repairs or corrects the problem! Somewhere between the 2....something was lost!
They may take offence to mentioning and using your FTE thread....so if it is a "disgrunted employee" it just gives him more reason to continue being an a_ _ _ _ _ e with customer repairs!
Though this has to be credited to the intellect of that individual as well! Marlin/Remington should have a sort of quality control in place and if they don't I can see them losing many customers!
I know what company I will not be buying from in the future!
