Lightbulb

Most .22 rifles had no serial numbers til The GCA of '68 mandated it. On our Form 4473 - they just say "No serial number". No problem for the Feds. Can't be a big deal - how many pre-'68 guns are out there?

Firearm Laws For Rhode Island

http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/StateLaws.aspx?ST=RI

There are no state licensing requirements for the possession of rifles, shotguns, and handguns by adults. It is unlawful for a minor under the age of 18 to possess and use any firearm or ammunition, unless he has a firearm permit and is at an approved rifle range or camp and is in the presence of a qualified adult.

The minor`s permit is issued by the state police or the local chief of police upon proof of the completion of a firearms training course by the applicant and provided that the minor has the written consent of his parent or guardian.

The following persons are prohibited from owning, possessing, or controlling any firearms:

Any person convicted of a crime of violence.
Any fugitive from justice.
Any illegal alien.
Any person who is under guardianship, treatment, or confinement for being mentally incompetent.
Any person who has been adjudicated or is under treatment or confinement as a drug addict or an habitual drunkard, unless he has been pronounced cured for at least five years and can produce an affidavit from a ˆcompetent medical authorityˆ stating that he is a proper person to possess firearms.

Hey jerky, thought you might like to hear a story about my Marlin 100G. ....Growing up in Ohio, my dad wanted to haul some manure for a small garden he had, but he did not have a truck. He saw an old truck sitting in a farmers field, stopped to talk to the owner, and found out it ran. It was an old beat up 50's Chevy. They negotiated the price, then my father told him"OK, I will buy it if you leave the old 22 thats laying in the back of the bed."
Upon bringing it home, he told me I could have the rusty old gun, if I cleaned it up. This was in 1970, and I was 10 years old. I had been carrying a bb gun around for 3 years and was pretty excited.
First he showed me how to clean the metal parts, then we re-blued it. Then he told me I needed to sand the stock so we could refinish it.
To make a long story short, every night after school for what seemed like eternity, I would sand away, then asked, "good enough yet Dad?"
This went on for about 3 weeks if my memory serves me right. Finally, I heard the answer I had worked hard for.
This was my first gun, and it still hangs on my rack in my computer room. I will be 47 next week, have owned several and sold them all, except this one. She's been neglected, and has some surface rust, and is a bit dusty, but every May I take her out and fire a few rounds, just for the memory. And I don't think I've ever shot one that is more accurate, not powerful, but dead on. Hopefully, when I'm gone, my son will eventually become interested in more than video games, enough to appreciate a few old heirlooms I have to leave. If not, it has served it purpose anyway. Take Care, Chuck

Nice story, Chuck. Not unlike my own. I have my dad's Model 100, which is actually a Sears Ranger, made by Marlin. My dad bought it in 1937 for $3.75 brand new. He always was hacked off that his sister bought a nicer one for $5.00 because she had the money. There is nothing that can drive tacks better than this one, though.

One day, one of my sons will inherit this, most likely my younger one. I hope he appreciates its heirloom value, even though its intrinsic value is not much.

I'll be taking my Dad out to go plinking with the .22 in the next few weeks. He hasn't shot the thing in about 45 years. We're both looking forward to the fun.
