Marlin Model 57 - Again

The gun has been back to the shop twice. As near as he can determine the spring for the firing pin is too weak (left cocked in a closet for a decade?). The don't make them any more and he says to "just live with it". Last night it failed to shoot on 5 of 12 rounds. Can/could a competent gunsmith fashion a replace spring?

Wolff Springs makes a huge variety of springs - surely they have one that would fit. E-mail them (Google the addy) with the length, inner and outer diameters, and wire size if possible. Any good gunsmith would likely have or be able to get one that would work.

That is A sort of specialized spring that fits several models of the Marlin rifles.
The models 56,57,57m, and 62 all use Gun Parts #378440.
It is a 2 armed spring with several coils in the middle and it is a difficult spring to make but not impossible. Trouble is most gunsmiths never are taught how to make and Temper springs properly in these mail order gunsmith courses that seem prevalent these days.
Your spring could be heated, re-bent and re tempered by a TRUE ,Competent, gunsmith if you can't find a replacement!
