| 39A action takedown I have a 39a that I recieved as a gift from my father and brother 23 years ago. I gave it heck and now my son has been useing it. Its still amazingly accurate but the lever is working harder. I have cleaned the barrell often but the action itself has been only sprayed with cleaners and blown out w low pressure compressed air. I no longer have the original owners manual, but the last time I did it went to a local "gunsmith" to be put back togethr. i asked what i needed to do differently next time he said don't. They never need it. (I dont mean disassemble action, just out of stock etc, field strip) I think its time. Any helpfull ideas or comments? |

| I have a pdf copy of the Marlin 39A manual. Send me an e-mail at gpkidder@earthlink.net if you still need it. It does show how to breakdown the action to clean it. GPKIDDER Today's date is 12-23-2007 |

| Take everything painted or plastic off and use Birchwood Casey Gun Scrubbur on it and rinse it out good until it is clean and let dry and then lubricate with gun oil like Remington Remoil. While using the gunscrubber be in a well ventilated area like a garage as it is carbon tetrichloride and shouldnt be inhaled.I do it outdoors if I am doing very much.If this doesnt help take it to a qualified gunsmith. You can get the gunscrubber and remoil at Wal-Mart or such stores. There are no plastic parts in a M39A that I know of and gunscrubber wont hurt the action.I've used it on plastic with no damage. sam. | I use carb and choke spray cleaner from Wallyworld. It works as well as gun cleaners and less than half the price. |
