Alaska Hunt levergun

Planning a trip to Alaska next fall (08) for Sitka deer and some steelhead flyfishing.
Would really like to use a levergun for the hunt. Like the balistics and range of the new Marlin 308MarlinExpress. Are there any concerns about this new round not being around for very long? Will it be popular enough for Hornady to continue producing? Also, does anyone know if they have started selling the components for handloading?
I know some people really like the 35 rem. b ut with the additional range and flat trajectory the 308ME looks amazing!

Any thoughts, just let me know.

try emailing mooseman684, he stops by occasionally and could help you out

a 30-06 should be fine for that area, but im getting the impression that you want to buy a new gun

If you insist on a levergun, I would stick with the tried and true 35 Rem. it'll do all ya want out to 150 yards.

For what it's worth, I stopped by a friends' house in Connecticut and he was shooting small branches off a pine tree with his Winchester 30-30.

I had a Marlin 336C in .35 Remington in the car so I asked him if he'd like to try it.

He jumped at the chance and first shot took the top out of the tree. Needless to say, he was impressed.

Where you are hunting and the average shot yardage should be a big factor.

Many guys hunting deer in the brush of the eastern US prefer an open sight 30-30 while some places in the west require long shots with scopes.

Ask the folks who live where you plan to hunt what they use.

Nothing wrong with the 308 Marlin Express if it does the job for you. But if you want longer range in a levergun, there is the BLR, if that's your cup of tea. Acailable in 308 Win, 30-06, and much more.
