What type of range can you get with a 45/70 caliber lever action?

I wouldn't go past 200 yards.

Go to Remington.com then to their ballistics program

where you can obtain a world of useful information on the .45-70
and other cartridges. Then you can make you own decisions as to
the distance/comfort level you will have with the cartridge.

Remington provides some great info and a means to compare up to three cartridges.

Remington.com website

If you go there they have a really interesting ballistics setup that will not only give you .45-70 info but will let you compare it to other cartridges.

I am a big fan of this website and the ballistics section especially.

as you can see, with this load it makes the 45-70 a good 230 yard choice.. here is a pic of my marlin xlr in 45-70

Uncle Sam used to have 1,000 yard matches with the .45-70 Trapdoor Springfields .

The Marlin can be loaded considerable faster ( flatter trajectory ) .

All depends on what you wish to do , and what kind of sights .

I have shot steel rams at 200 meters with cast lead bullets and the factory rear sights .

God bless
