Marlin model 80

I have a model 80 that I picked up maybe 15 or so years ago on the cheap and spiffed up. Been trying to locate some spare magazines for it, anyone know if any of the newer Marlin mags will work or could be "altered" to function. Also any of the Marlin guru's here know the time period that the model 80 was made in.

thanks tim

There are 4 different model 80's, the model 80 (the original) was manufactured from 1934-1939 and the 80E w/peep rear sight and hooded front sight was from 1934-1940
The other 2 are the model 80C and 80DL, the 80C was manufactured from 1940-1970.
The 80DL was manufactured from 1940-1965, both of these variations are simply an improved version of the original. The 80C has open rear and bead front sights and the 80DL has peep rear and hooded front.

I can only see model 80 written on the barrel so that would put it between 70 and 75 years old. It is still an excellent shooter/plinker rifle.

thanks tim

I'm going to throw a word of caution in there...check your mags against what is shown in the pics of the websites you go to.

Does it look anything like this? This is an 80-C

If the rifle looks like that, the mag should look like this...

MidwayUSA - Marlin Magazine Marlin 20, 25, 80, 780 22 Long Rifle 7-Round Steel Blue

And that's why I'm the Marlin guy...I'm a picture posting link having mofo

1. Ballard style rifling.

2. Walnut stock with "target/bullseye" inlet into heel.

3. Receiver is not d&ted for side mount or any sort of scope or target blocks.

4. Receiver is d&ted for a peep sight.

5. Receiver is NOT grooved for a scope mount.

That's a Marlin 80 C/DL.

THIS, is a pic of a Marlin 80DL

Looks like the same mag as for the 80 first series.

An 80-C doesn't have the peep rear & hooded front, just a buckhorn & bead combo. Both have the same fatter trigger guard...as opposed to the thin 80-first series type. Both use the same mags.

Hope that helps

I have a model 80-DL that I've has since I was a teenager and I'm 70 yo now. I was trying to find the date of manufacture and found that all Marlin rifles with the -DL were made in April of 68. I think it's more like 1948, since I remember hunting with it when I was 16 yo, or so, so the dates just didn't jive.
Mine has the bracket on the upper left side of the stock, above the trigger but nothing is attached to it, like a sight of scope, just a threaded screw end sticking out. I read that JC Higgins made a scope for this kind of mount. I haven't shot it for over 50 years but am going to get some rim fire LR ammo for it, so it works in the clip and take it out to the gun club that I belong to in Woodbury, MN.
I've got a big chip out of the butt of the stock and the butt plate is missing. It sounds like a wreck, but I'm going to fix it up, hopefully before I die.

Yes that looks like my model 80 and the magazine is the same except for the orange follower.

I have no drilled and tapped scope or sight holes anywhere, no bulls eye on the stock, and not grooved for scope mount. Also the original thin trigger guard was broken and I ended up finding one of the fatter versions to put on my rifle.

thanks for all the info

tim
