This is a great thread. If they ever add stickys to this subforum, this should become one.

My Marlin loves Federal bulk pack stuff, but I still can't find it anywhere, so I may need to to find this thread again soon.

I was just playing with an old 989M2, turns out the recoil spring guide had a little burr in it that was hanging up the recoil spring ever so slightly, looked as though the recoil spring had been kinked a time or two over it's life...so a quick polishing of the guide & a new recoil spring solved the problem on that one

I LOVE these rifles

Just picked up a Marlin Glenfield Model 60. Looks clean inside, can't wait to take it out and give it a workout.

Wish there were more aftermarket stocks for it though. I had a folder on a 10/22 and loved it (not for the tacticool aspect, but the handy aspect) and would enjoy one on the Marlin...

Ramline used to make a Model 60 folder...but they quit making it. Email them direct and ask them to let you know if they ever do start making them again. If we can give them a few thousand emails, they might start making them again.

Boyd's Riflestocks periodically makes limited runs of model 60 Thumbhole stocks...and they usually sell out within 48-72 hours. Email Boyd's and they'll send you a warning of impending release of stocks about 48 hours before it happens. Tell them what colors you prefer as well...check their site for details.

Bullpup Stocks dotcom makes a Bullpup stock for the 60 & 70/989 models...currently available & probably the handiest way to deal with those original 22" barrels

ATI makes a Dragunov-style stock for the 60/795.

And of course, check your local laws before ordering...if you live in an anti-gun state...like Kali, Ill, NJ, NY, etc...yer screwed.

Oh, btw, the Ramline Lockarm stock for the Marlin model 70 on Numrich ($14.95) will also fit the model 60 if you drill a hole for the tube mag & use a 795 Trigger Guard with a small piece of flat model plastic glued-in to cover the mag well hole.

And if you buy an ATI SKS Retro-fit Kit (from ATI or any gunshop/online/offline) you can turn it into a Folding stock...then you have a $25 Folding Stock for your Marlin semi-auto!! YAY!!

Question Extractor on Model 60 tube feed semi-auto

I've recently noticed I have empty brass still in the extractor after firing. Several times it has rechambered the empty round!

What causes this and how do I fix it?

Likely your extractors need cleaning...squeeze them on one side so they pop outwards and clean 'em till shiny.

Or the hook has broken on one or both extractors, and they're just not pulling the brass out completely.

Careful cleaning & inspection as above may solve it, if not...we'll have to tihnk of something else

Also, check for a burr in the chamber...sometimes those create enough drag to cause weird things to happen as well.

Did this. Noticed I could feel grit inside one on opening and closing. Shot a drop of penetrating oil into it and it went away. Completely cleaned the action with carburetor cleaner and cotton swabs. Replaced the recoil spring. Still jammed.

They extract the brass. In fact, they hold onto it, won't release it, and try and reload back into the firing chamber.

Nothing looks "broken off" but the small extractor on the left may have bent itself inwards while slamming unto a cross turned FTE rear casining. The lip is far more obvious on the larger extractor on the right but I figured this was to help the ejector eject to the right.

Do they bend in?

I didn't see one or feel one.

Thanks in advance.

Smile

Here's a newer, better picture of how the Ejector wire is supposed to be set.

Hope that helps a few more folks...they're focused on the wire a bit better

Smile OK. That's a start.

I took apart my action and compared it to the spring in your pictures. It lay across the action at the corroect angle versus your top photo but was pretty well flattened out versus the bottom photo. So I bent it upwards. Why this should have any effect, I have no clue but, tomorrow, I'll try it out. If it suddenly ejects you are a FRIGGING GENIUS because I would never, ever, have considered this.

My own suspicion still lies with that left hand side extractor.

Well! In the middle of the night it occured to me why big shrek showed me that spring photo and why my ejectors keep hanging onto the spent brass. As the breech recoils back and extracts the bullet casing, the deliberate bend of that spring lines up with the recoiling brass and the brass collides with the spring, knocking it out of the extractors which also opening up on recoil. The result: the spent brass flies loose.

With my spring bent down flush, the steel tip missed stricking the brass on extraction. I haven't fired it yet but I have checked the spring with the breech open to make sure the spring is still in the proper position and I didn't bend it down again on reassembly. It's where it should be.

big shrek knows his model 60's. When he posted those two photos I was wondering if he was even replying to me. I never would have thought the tip of that spring served any purpose at all and I'll bet there are people who have seen it and snipped it off with wire cutters thinking it was just excess metal.

My hat tip to big shrek and to Mr. Glenfield for his clever idea in making that spring dual purpose.

I'll post my results, hopefully today, but I expect positive things. Thanks, Big Shrek!

Big Shrek:

I just traded one problem for another on my Marlin Model 60. Having fixed the rear guide spring to end the FTE, I now have a problem in my feed. I'm getting live rounds caught in the chamber with a big dent in the side. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
