What is best to use in Marlin XL7 for accuracy?

I am picking up my new Marlin XL7C (Camo) tomorrow and was wondering what everyone else is using for rounds? I am looking for the most accuracy from 50 to 200 yards so that when I put something in the crosshairs the bullet will hit what nearest that point anywhere from 50 to 200 yards? What do you use for rounds and how do your groupings measure up? I will be using it for hunting deer in New England if anyone was wondering.

Thanks

What cartridge? Even two seemingly identical guns may prefer two completely different brands of ammo.

As far a sighting in goes if you are a bit high at 100 yards and dead on at 200 you should be ok.

Well,

congrats on an excellent gun choice.

There is simply no direct answer to your question. Whatever the caliber,
your best course of action would be to purchase a box of ammo in one bullet weight and another box in another weight and so on.

Every gun has minor variations in construction. They are not all perfect clones. So, as a example, my Marlin might hit best with 150 grain bullets in a certain caliber and yours might hit best with 165 grain bullets in the same caliber.

Best wishes and enjoy sighting in.

I have one in 270.. Its favorite food is Federal Fusions in 130 gr., it usually puts 3 shots in 1 inch at 200yds, better than any handload that I've tried. A mulie buck in Wyo. last year was 207 yds. (measured) died with 1 shot to lungs. Bob

I'd reccomend the 150s in a 270 because they tend to hold together better on close range shots but still shoot flat enough for LONG shots. Sometimes 130s give you alot of bloodshot meat when hit close up with a 270.

In a 30-06, I like 165s or 180s for the same reason. 150 grain bullets at '06 velocities can be quite destructive and you will lose meat if shot up close. A 180 RN would be good choice and any 165 design would be too. That's what I shoot in my XL-7. 165s for LONG range and 180s for deer at point blank to 200 yds.
