Question Do you guys prefer Mauser sights, or you can just overcome?

Compared to the sights on my Enfields and Garand at 100 yards, it is really difficult going from those nice apertures to my Yugo 48A's sights.

Even excluding the need to aim a bit low, and with decent eyes, it's a challenge to center the tip of the front post (wedge), to make a group anything similar to those other rifles' groups.

The tiny bead sight on the Savage .22 from the 1930's is a bit easier, although most floating targets are no more than about 50-80 yards.

With my old eyes I have a scope on both my Enfield and Mauser for 100 yd shooting. Solves the problem.

for some reason, forigen mil surps all have crappy sights. I can use the sights on any US made weapon fine but my old eyes can't get a good sight picture with my European and ex Soviet weapons. why dont they use the rear sights to correct for windage like we do? maybe I'm just used to it but adjusting the front sight for windage seems more awkward and usually involves a sight pushing tool.

Many of the older mauser sights are set for 300 meter shooting. To use them for truly closer shooting, you need to replace the front sight post with a taller one. I have scope mounts on my mausers with some being in the more common spot mounted to the receiver. Others I have setup like a scout rifle, replacing the rear sight with a scope mount. I actually like these better, and have a pair of Chilean 1895 mausers setup like this.

My complaint about the Mauser sights is that the rear notch is too small. I have trouble lining it up with the front sight because I can't tell when the post is centered. Give me a peep sight any time!

I plan on putting FIRESIGHTS on what ever i can but in the mean time Laufer i use White Out or bright colored wire insulation on the front sight, course the insulation only works on post style front sights.

That's a good idea, if you can see it on the very tiny tip.

Instead of adding a higher front sight I just cut a deeper V in the back sight. at one hundred yards I'm right on and lift from there.
Works for me. SEMPER FI.
