Collecting Mil-surp rifles. Yugo M24/47

I REALLY like this forum.

I appreciate the civility of our members.

That said, my brother-in-law just gave me a Yugo M24/47 and some old surplus ammo. [I gave his son a great deal on a used car.] I thought I had more than enough history in my gun room [No.4 Enfirld, 2 Mosins, Psl, K31,SKS,M96,etc], but I wasn't gonna say "No" to this new [free!] rifle.

I love to learn all about the history of these guns and their cartridges.

Of course there is a ton of info on the internet, but before I shoot this rifle, what do you think I should know about this rifle? And can I shoot "I" or "JS" ammo from it? And there is some [apparently] Ecudorion ammo on stripper clips too... .318 0r .323...does that make a significance difference? Any info/websites on head stamps ?

I wasn't gonnna buy anymore stuff, but MAN this is fun!!

Thank you for your time!

For the M24/27 you want to use the .323 8mm ammo. You could use either but the .323 will be more accurate in the M24/47

Dont shoot the old surplus ammo out of it. You may just have to get a bullet out of the barrel.

The stock is in excellent conditon. The bore...not so much. [But I haven't had the chance to give it a good cleaning yet.] Kinda like the opposite of my K31! ;0)
