Just thought I would advise members of the high value of your Mausers even if not all matching. Even Russian captures are going for $600 or more. I frequently check gun stores for trade-ins by vets or family members for modern firearm. So many have been sporterized in the 50s and 60s that unaltered ones are bringing good money at gun shows. If interested Backbone of the Wermacht is a good investment for collectors even if not complete.
Thing is, folks that buy them, I think, do it not as an investment, but to shoot or just to own a piece of history. There's no doubt that they are fine rifles indeed.

Did not see any listed on Sog Gandog. I think you got a pretty good deal even id only semi matching. Most don't have matching bolt. Gun Boards Forum has a good Kar 98k section of threads. Gun stores usually have better prices than gun shows but prices have greatly increased the past few years.
I got mine a couple years ago and it's one of my favorite rifles. Only bad thing happened was an accident with some solvent that removed some of the shellac. So I went ahead and removed the rest without using anything that would remove the wood. It was a bummer but stuff happens. I'm on the lookout for more now.
The Russian captures are collectible in their own right, they may be mixed and matched but that just means they have more history and variations than a normal Bring back.
They are indeed unique Capt. Had a BYF 44 with unpeened swatikas and no shellac on stock. Had a reddish laminate stock and matching except for the bolt with matched itself. They are going for good bucks as so many were sporterized in the 50s and 60s. Pre war examples have better finish and some had walnut stocks. Still good buys can be found in gun shops but ones at gun shows are usually overpriced. The book Backbone of the wermacht is a good source of info. Best wishes.
Yes I just checked. Russian captures for $400 to $425 are not a bad price for non matching with peened markings but they usually sell like hot cakes. Usually auctions like Empire ask nearly twice that amount.
Well, BBotW is a good entry level book on the 98k, BUT do not take it as gospel on the subjekt!!! There is lots of good info there, BUT it is riddled with errors, omisions and uses diddled with rifles as examples, some of those examples never existed. In other words he shows faked rifles. His sniper book has similar problems.
As far as RC 98ks being $600, don't think so. Unless it is something odd or off the wall - SS proofed, single rune or such.
I currently have several RCs to sell, most are not peened, some do not have the X or import marks and most are in Exc comndition. Prices are from $350 to $450.

Was a while ago whem I bought it. Century International still has them for $350. But you have to have either an 001 or 003 license to order from them.

Thanks for the views guys. It seems good buys are still out there if you look. I sold a RC last year BYF 44 in decent shape for $425 that I paid $300 maybe 10 years earlier. I noticed Gun Show prices are very high usually and that is why I frequent gun shop in my area for better prices. Thanks Sarge for tip on BBOTW as I have heard there are some mistakes concerning numbers produced. have learned quite a bit from you guys and members on Gun Boards Forum. Thanks for your input
I've got a '42 BCD that I may sell someday. I didn't know they were selling so high. The stock and bolt don't match though. All markings are intact and no import stamp.
This is why I started this thread roverboy. The mauser posts seemed pretty lame to me in comparison to the ones on Gun Boards Forum. I know prices have escalated greatly in the last few years as supply has lessened somewhat. Your BCD could bring a sot more than you think at a gun show if you decide to sell. Check out Gun boards forum and post some pics for responses from some knowledgeable collectors. I know a kar 98k stock without anything else sold for big money on E bay recently. Thanks for posting.
