| Super Moderator ![]() | Hi cap mag conversions? So I was thinking, suppose common military mags could be fitted into a Mauser with a little work on the trigger guard and fabrication of a mag catch? Like FAL for 308, BAR for 30-06, and one of the machinegun mags for 8mm. I wouldn't mind emptying mag after mag of powerful 8mm as opposed to the more expensive 308. I know conversions of Rem 700s have been done for M14 mags.

| Super Moderator ![]() | Anyone know what mags are out there in 8mm? I occasionally see some labeled Z something that have straight edges and chisel shapes (rougly, like say a 20rd USGI M16 mag). Apparently from a machine gun. If only these surplus mags could be given a civilian legal gun to feed...

| Moderator ![]() | Look around on eBay and the other gun auction sites, and in Shotgun News. There are "trench magazines" out there that replace the fixed-mag floorplate, and are made from MG13 box mags. Fixed, capacity around twenty, and $50 to $80 - IIRC. Kind of clunky though - can't use 'em for hunting, and it'd be nearly impossible to shoot the rifle prone. Making a Mauser take a detachable might work - you could still have a fiver for hunting/bench shooting, and have the biggun for fun. Weld on an AK-style latch maybe? Come to think of it, Tuco's Gunboards CETME/FR8 forum had a pic once from a guy who modded an FR8 with an extended mag. Can't recall if it was fixed or detachable though.

| Senior Member | There is always the Hakim mag in 8mm. Not sure about fitting it to a standard mauser though. I did compare it to the Yugo M48. Probably could be done but not without a lot of work. Well, maybe bubba is a better term than a lot of work. They are $79.95 through Shotgun News so it wouldnt be cheap. The Hakim mag is inserted MUCH farther forward of the trigger guard in the Hakim so the latch would be a problem. Go for it BRG! I would love to see a detachable 10 round for every mauser I have. |

| Senior Member | Then you need a milling machine...heck you need a whole factory. Hate to say it but dont you think all the Germans, Yugoslavians, Poles, Cz. etc, thought if this,? Full power 8mm is the Hakim. There is the MG42 Mag. Sorry, I dont think this conversion can be done..at least not without tons of money. Get a Hakim and you'll understand nod:          Last edited by Snakebite; 03-07-2004 at 01:36 AM. |
