oh well, I ordered one the other day and it will be delivered tomorrow. I have another 1912 styre in .308 that came with a bolt and I am hoping that either it or a spare bolt I have will work. I let you know how it goes. Any sugestions will not be turned away.

I saw these also. Perhaps this is a really stupid question, but will a regular mauser bolt, like say out of a Turk fit it?

Exclamation

An '02 Turkish bolt would likely fit, as it's based on the same long receiver Gewehr 98 action as the Steyr M1912. The later K98-based actions are shorter, so their bolts won't work, and neither will the M48/M48A Yugos. I don't think the FN bolt would work either, but not sure.

I thought a Turk probably would, I am guessing the same goes for a CZ98/22 or a perhaps a VZ 24.

I got the reciever in and after cleaning it up I took my bolt out of my 1912 steyr that was converted to .308 and it fit and worked great.

just a slight correction to what bigdog said. the gewehr98, and the k98/k98k are the exact same action. bolts, firing pins, and triggerguards will all interchange. i even happen to have a k98 that has a gewehr98 triggerguard on it.

I have a 1911 Spandau GEW that the bolt fits but for some reason it wont lock down on the .308 round. I took my other 1912\ 50 FN rework out and shot a pretty good group with it last week so I put a scope on it and found it getting between 1 and 2 moa with surplus ammo. If the weather ever clears and I can squeeze a few bucks from the ole lady I am going to put this thing together and try it out.I am not to sure about the barrel though after I cleaned it up it looked more like a shotgun barrel than a rifle

Correct me if I'm wrong but Styer is a split receiver altho a well made and machined its not the strongest bolt gun around. Like anything elst care should be taken when switching parts.

your thinking of the steyr-manlicher, but steyr also built k98's at least during wwII and possibly earlier.

Im the the first one to say I am not a gunsmith nor do I play one on TV. If I ever get this thing together and long before it ever has a live round go through it I will have a pro look at it and tell me where I goofed up. The first and only time I ever tried to put a rifle together by myself I test fired it tied to a tire with 50 foot of string on the trigger and me behind a tree.as I said its a lot less stressful to have a pro chek it out.
