Has anyone bought a Turk from J&G?

My and about 2 other fellas are going to be going in on a few Turkish Mausers around the first of the year. I saw that J&G has them for $60 in good condition.
The best price I could find on them.
-Has anyone bought one from J&G?
-How was the quality?
-How are they to work with?

Ignore that old man behind the Kaintucky curtain! He's just mad cause his 40 grain custom hand-load of Gold Bond powder won't ignite in his .45 Colt....

$19.95 last yer......sure, PAPA G......

I doubt if you will find many Turks in reasonable condition for under $60 any more. The days of $39.95 are sure gone. All I ever bought from J&G was ammo, so I can't say how they are on their longarms. I have always enjoyed the Turk Mausers, though. There sure seemed to be a very broad range of quality within the "Good-Very Good" rating....running into headspace issues is not uncommon. If you get several, there is a fair chance that all can be rendered usable by swapping the bolts around.

Good luck!

I purchased two Turks from Wholesale Guns & Ammo for $39 each. They ran out of them a while back. Another one was purchased at Dunhams. As I said in a different post, the Turks are the best buy out there even at $60. My only complaint is I still get cosmoline, or whatever that stuff is, coming out of the stock when the barrel gets hot. I know I have used a half of gallon of the purple cleaner with scalding hot water on each of them.
If you use the hot Turkish ammo, you get an additional treat. I am always concerned about it being loaded above the recommended max. Once, I got all these little bruises on my shoulder from shooting that stuff. Some people pull the projectiles and load a new powder charge, but that seems a waste of components to me. Order a 70 round bandolier and try it. Remember it does have a corrosive primer and clean the barrel and bolt face with an ammonia solution(or ammoniated Windex).

I got three from Sarco a couple of years back. Two are excellent, one needs a barrel-heavy pitting, but exterior, not the bore. The one needing a barrel turned out to be a 93, not a 98. Nice project when I get around to it. If you don't like ammonia, try the various black powder cleaners that are out there. They are water based and don't stink. Simply clean first with the black powder stuff, then clean and oil as usual. One of the Turks will easily hold under 1.5" at 100 yds. I'm very pleased with them.
