Value?

In my basement I found an old Mauser rifle an 1891 Argentine I cleaned it up a little and have shot it. when I looked at pictures of the same rifle they showed a full wood stock and mine is cut off revealing about a foot and a half of barrel does this effect its value alot or not much at all? thanks

And when gunssb says "affect it's value", I'm pretty sure he means "decreases it".
But hey, if you just found it in your basement, you're still gonna get more out of it then you put in it, right?
How does it shoot?

If Bubba left the barrel, sights and such alone, you may be able to find a replacement stockset - try the usual suspects, Numrich, Century, Ebay, etc.
It could still be a good shooter, but check it over carefully - maybe get a gunsmith to check it for headspace and overall safety.

Not ALL the barrel is covered. Look at some pictures online. Make sure before you start. I love mine.

I found an old spanish mauser dated 1901 that has been sporterized and the sights and bolt and barrel are all in the same condition that they were made in but the stock has been cut down considerebly but i think its worth about $100 but i dont really know but i bought it for $30 way back and i just hope its worth even more.

P.S its a 7mm mauser 7x57

Oh yeah, 7mms aren't that common anymore. I'm sure you could get a fun restoration project out of it and make it worth much more than the cost of the parts, even though it wouldn't be worth as much without the original stuff intact.

Yeah its a nice little rifle but I dont know whether or not to try to fix or get a new barrel. The rifling is real scratched and I have never shot it. Just wondering if it was worth anything, but yeah i'll probably restore it for fun and see if i can sell it or anything.

If you were thinking of rebarreling, then yes I'd say restore it instead and sell it. If you want a rebarreling project you can get a cheaper model to chuck the barrel from.

if its marked lowe berlin its pre-1898, just remember its 7.65 caliber, its common to see these damaged with 8mm, talk to dennis at empirearms.com, he collects and knows just about everything on argentines, even sporterized they have a pretty good value, beautifully machined pieces, and very accurate, I sure like mine

Mauser man I asked dennis kroh at empire arms about your argentine and if its worth re-barreling and stocking here is his reply

No. . . it would cost more to do that than the final result would ever be worth.

Boydboys.com does the best job with duplicating originals and that is where many of the companies get thiers from.
