Ordered one from empire arms ($150 with excellent bluing & crossed out numbers on stock). Plan to swap the stock with an ATI stock with a scope rail. http://www.atigunstocks.com/product-mauser98stock.html# Opinions ? |

Plan on a set of extra-high rings too - the bent bolt handle isn't shaped for low scope mounting. I saw a pic of a similar rifle on another site - the owner had to also install a raised cheekpad to get proper cheek weld. Just a heads-up!

good to know about the rings - I was trying to figure that out by looking at the pictures. Also does the vz24 have a wide-arc bolt ? i.e. do I need to mess around with the bolt ? I think probably not but just checking if I need the bolt conversion kit too.

the CZ-24 should have the bolt handle sticking straight out. so that will have to be bent (look at the ATI site again. its your gun and your money, i think that stock is an abomination. i do not know anything else about them. hard to install, easy, improves shooting or not. |

hmm...doesn't look straight here ? http://www.surplusrifle.com/brnovz24/operations.asp any other stock suggestions ? I'd basically like a scope mount without having to drill holes in the receiver. I thought it looked kind of alienish/weird & anti-feinstein and not too hard to fit looked at some vz pics again and yup it's a straight bolt...hmm...any instructions on how to "fix" the bolt ? thanks. I might send the bolt off to Jim R (http://www.mosinnagant.net/Boltman/Boltman.html) - he apparently converts mauser bolts for $35 shipped. I don't have the required tools & the bolt kit still costs around $20...hmmm. Last edited by gunssb; 03-12-2005 at 09:04 PM. |

I also found www.iron-elite.com. It's a cantilever mount that is not aluminum and replaces the rear sight. Talked to the guy - he seems to know a good deal about mausers. He has offset mounts for the vz but he told me the best option would be (unless it was all matching which mine is not) to get a k98 bolt body and swap out the vz bolt (check headspace of course). That way I can go back when I want and yet put a regular scope & not worry about offset mount business (cheek pads etc). His mounts are supposed to be rock solid - I plan to get one and post up how it goes That should keep PAPA G happy too
