| Hi, okay this might appear stupid to some of you but how in the heck do I remove a danged freakin !!!!!!! !!!!! seized trigger guard screw from a mauser ? I tried the usual stuff that I'd do with a car, i.e. soak in WD-40 for 24 hours & try again. No use. So I got mad and chucked in the screwdriver bit in my drill & put it on reverse - !!!! thing won't budge & no surprise I stripped the head. Sooo I chuck a bit in & try again - broke 3 bits so far. One of the !!!!in broke bits flew into in my hand & now I'm bleeding. I'll replace the screw but how do I make the little !!!!er come out ? Help me before I go get the blow torch and melt the !!!!!!! | you need to get yourself an EZ-out. drill a hole into the screw and use the ez-out to extract it. a small piece of advice , get yourself some proper gunsmithing screw drivers. a properly fitting screwdriver will allow you to put alot more power into turning the screw without messing it up. most gun screws are soft and the mauser trigger guard screws are no exception. good luck getting that screw out. |

| Senior Member | sears has easy-outs for stuborn screws now. they come in a set of four i believe.id try that next. they cost like 20 bucks i think. if that fails take it to a gunsmith. he will have all the proper stuff to get it out.

| Super Moderator ![]() | That sounds exactly like what I did with my 98/22. Tried drilling the screw for an extractor and the bit broke, plunging the jagged end into my wrist, leaving me with a stigmata for weeks. Took a week to regain full use of my hand. Left the thing soaking in penetrating oil for weeks, and the screw was practically hand loose.

| Glad to know I'm not the only one - too bad about the hand. I didn't get hurt that bad - didn't even realize until I saw blood dripping onto the stock |

| Do what leftyO says, Important points---determine the true Diameter of the screw to be removed, Get a drill that is HALF that size & appropriate extractor. your drill hole should be as close to center as possible, if you angle your ******! you may have to add some heat DON'T USE A TORCH Get (beg borrow or rent) a heat gun. I'm a machine repairman in a plastic conversion plant I pull bolts all the time. If you you have ANY doubts about getting it right take it to a gunsmith or machinist
