Question Rust

Hey all, I just got a cz 98/22 (they're becoming hard to find). Couple of quick questions:

1. The bore has strong rifling & should clean up well. But the side of the trigger guard has a fair bit of rust & pitting. How does one get rid of & prevent the spread of rust. Usual lubrication/Ballistol so on ? I cleaned it well with acetone & #9.

2. The handguard is cracked almost in half. How do I repair it - epoxy ? Is there something I can get from the local hardware store without waiting for Brownell's to ship me something ?

By the way you older guys know this already, but for the ones that are starting out and who hate cosmoline, it isn't so bad. Most of the gun was covered in layers & layers of ugly sticky yucky cosmoline, but the only parts with rust on them were not.

Also, what's the right sling for the 98/22 ? Numrich's should have them ?

Thanks.

some 000 steel wool lightly rub the rust, then use the 000 with a little oil and rub again.

go to your favorite Lowes, Home Depot, or other store and ask for Gorilla Glue.

gasoline done fine by me for 40 years, but what ever solvent you use DO IT OUTSIDE AWAY FROM ANY SOURCE OF IGNITION, AND AWAY FROM ANY STRUCTURES.

HOPE IT HELPS :right:
