Nice score, willypete.

I don't personally have a K98 but I do have the lil brother action in a Yugo M48.

The action is a strong, strong action and it can take pretty much all the shooting abuse you can deliver....within safe reasons, of course.

Remember, if you shoot that corrosive crap clean soon after shooting with good hot water, Windex with ammonia, ammonia and water, etc.

In fact I have a small Dristan bottle in my range box with soapy ammonia and water mix and after I shoot corrosive I run a swab down the barrel a couple of times and clean up the face of the bolt and the exterior of the bolt right away.

Then I do a little more detailed cleaning when I get 'er home.

If you use anything with ammonia try to keep it off the bluing and finished stock.

Good shooting!

Nope she is staying in original condition. For 2 reasons (1) i am too lazy, dont have time, etc etc. (2) i think that right now in the condition it is in, it tells a story about the soldier who may have used it. Ok it adds a little character..

Wink

It's usually pretty easy to find an already bubba'd milsurp in a pawnshop. I've seen Mausers, Enfields and Mosins that fell to the hacksaw. I wouldn't gripe about someone modding a Yugo M48/M48A - most are made up for the US market - not war relics! "Have Dremel - will mod!"

Unhappy

anyone who wants to mod any mauser should give em to me - true a yugo does not have a war history but I love my yugo the way it is I'm voting for the Assault Dremel Ban and the Hacksaw Control Act. Either that or both should come under Destructive Devices. Also there should be a permit to possess a drill & tap and each should be registered with the commercial gun you plan to use it on at the time of purchase

Talking

I don't normally like MB's on bolt-actions - it just doesn't look right. One big exception being the Spanish FR8. Very nice little carbine!
Still, it would tame some of the Mauser's recoil. Last time I shot it, My M48A had more recoil than any of my other bolt guns, FR8 and Russky M44 included!
That Turk ammo was cookin'!

Yep, sometimes I think that Dremel Tools should be held under a "National Power Tool Act", like the NFA but for "dangerous tools". Hehehe.
Might have saved some nice milsurps from an ugly fate.

If you're going to sport one the 98's have the most parts available, O3's are second. Enfields and Nagants are going to be hard to find custom parts for.I'm not advocating butchering a good one but like B D said, there's plenty available that already have been bubba'd. Just find a nice clean, smooth action. The late war German's are rough and it will be extremely difficult to polish all the tool marks out. Some actions are naturally smoother than others. F.N.'s have about the smoothest action of them all. I've done two an O3 and a F.N. , got another in progress. You will definately have something to be proud of when you get it finished.
