Oberndorf Model 96?

I can't seem to find any info on these Oberndorf Model 96 rifles that sarco is selling. Every search I do ends up in a page about Swedish M96 Mausers. Are these rifles not derivative of a Mauser military rifle or what? Actually, the only place I've found that says anything about them is the Sarco page itself.

Anyone know anything about them? They look interesting with the straight pull bolt, much more expensive than a Swiss K31, but available in some nice caliber choices.

several years ago mauser came out with a new rifle , straight pull bolt called the model 96, in a variety of calibers and these rifles were short lived and did not sell well. these rifles should not be confused with the model 1896 swedish mauser.

Exactly^ they look like high quality sporting rifles, but for the life of me there's no information about them to be found on the internet. All my Mauser model 96 searches only turn up the Swedes. You have any insight as to why they didn't sell well? I can imagine that the straight pull mechanism didn't appeal to the Mauser purists, but if it's of relatively modern design, is it a strong action? I assume it must be if they're offering it in .308, 30.06 and .300

I guess I shouldn't be asking about this in the military forum?

I remember seeing these straight-pull commercial Mausers in the older Gun Digest books - seemed a nice enough rifle, but as was said, the Mauser purists didn't go for it.
This was before we became enamored of the Swiss K31 and the Austro-Hungarian M95 straight-pull rifles. They were seen as an abberation.

Gotta say, after checking one out at a local pawn shop, with a none too discounted price tag of $850, I don't think it's as refined a design as the K-31 seems to be. The bolt handle on a straight pull, in my mind, should be designed like the K-31, rather than just putting a conventional style bolt arm on it, that just doesn't move vertically. That was why I wasn't as impressed with the SIG Blaser as everyone else seemed.
