Unknown Mauser Please Help

Hey, I am new here, I got a mauser from my grandfather, and supposodly its from WWII, and now looking up the weapon it is hard for me to decide what kind of version it is etc. now I can make out that is a Turkish weapon from what I have read up

I will post pics soon, but this is what it looks like

its Bolt Action, loaded from the top, it has arabic writing on the left side of the stock (or by the receiver?!?)

T.C in big letters, has a star under the T.C letters, then a half moon crescent. then says AS.FA under it, and then says Ankara under that... I hope I'm not to confusing, and then what it looks like it says 1233 under, I thought at first it was 1933, but it looks more like a 2. looking all around the receiver

then at the back, right by the bolt, it says 1810, on the rear adjusting site, it says 1810, and a few other places,also you can see the Half Moon in a few other places aswell by the receiver. and on the bolt itself says 2347(may be a model number)

any info on this weapon would be of great help. the only thing I found out so far was again, that it is a turk mauser, may have been made in the wwII era.

Sounds like a Turkish Mauser Serial #1810 with a non-matching bolt numbered #2347
But I could be wrong without pics.

I have a Turk 1888 Commision rifle that was rearsenaled in the 30's with a mismatched bolt.

Finding a Turk with a matching bolt is like going to a klan rally and finding someone with a 5th grade education.

so the 1810 is only a serial number, and when you say its a turkish mauser, thats just the rifle itself, is it a faily common rifle from wwII, or not, was it used by the germans?!? (from things I read online they made them for germans and allies)

and anything on why it also says 1233, is that another serial #??

when I post the pics, would you be able to match it up with anything?? like more of a model for the rifle? cause when I look up the turkish mausers etc. I cant find the style that I have, especially with the crescent.

could it be a Kar98k?? this is a text from a site I read "After World War II many German rifles made their way to Yugoslavia and Israel, where the German marking were removed and replaced with those of there new host country." could it have happened to the rifle I have due to the arabic writing on the side?? and from the serial #, it looks like it was built in 1940

I'm sorry for being such a newbie on this >.<

The Turks used several different Mausers, such as the Model 1903 (long barreled later variant of the Gewehr 98), the Model 98/22 made in Czechoslovakia (also long barreled, arabic markings on rear sight), the Model 38 (a standard wherein many earlier rifles were modified to a uniform set of specs (usally a shorter barrel).
A picture of the rifle would let us narrow it down further.

Ankara was the main Turkish Arsenal where the rifles were built or refurbed. The Crescent Moon symbols are typical Turkish markings, and are generally found on many of the parts.

sorry if I cant get pictures up, I'm trying to do it right now, its just I cant find a picture host for over 1mb, since most pictures are just over the 1mb mark after resize, sorry, I'm working on it

try www.photobucket.com for a good photo host, and use a paint program to shrink the filesize. Paint Shop Pro or Adobe photoshop are great for this, but I am sure you can use Microsoft paint to do it as well.

Definitely not a Kar98. Sounds like a standard 38 type Turk Mauser. These were manufactured in Turkey, sometimes using German manufactured parts. As mentioned, very few of these will have bolts that match the last four of the serial number.

what about a 48?

1810 and 2347 are probably factorie numbers. Apearently they all match except for the bolt.

Your probably right. Not 48 thats yugo and bosnia. Could be the 03 though. They used 1903 and 1938.

ChiGokU- look on the internet for sites that help you identify you rifles. They will give specs questions so you would probably need a tape measure and stuff like that

Cant remember what years Yugo stuff I have but all of it hit 100%.
Had a few Romainian green laquered case go dud.
Bought a Jack Schitt load of Equadorian 8mm. Seemed like 1/3 were misfires.(duds)

The 70's production Yugo ammo is excellent! I love it. Very accurate, and goes BANG!! every time. My buddy screwed up and bought the '54 dated Yugo that I warned him about - bad juju!! Most had to be wacked three or four times to shoot it. Stay far away from the 50's crap!
